The Rangers could have claimed Letunov off waivers for free last October.

And they could have thought about signing him as a UFA in the offseason.

Instead, they spent Reunanen to get him.

Carolina wins.

...? What could possibly be the thinking behind this move for the Rangers?

Minor move, but it benefits the Canes more. We send out a meh ahler who should be nearing his prime in exchange for a promising 24 year old defenseman that is producing well in the AHL.

Actually Reunanen is scoring at a better pace than Letunov in the AHL right now.

Don't quite see what the Rangers get out of this.

There was a time where both of these guys were exciting prospects. Good times, good times...

To be the bias Ranger's fan.

Rangers have too many/ better D Prospects in the Pipeline. Tarmo's ability to make the team is pretty much null.
They just traded away their best C Prospect - Morgan Barron. So a new C Prospect wouldn't hurt, Right?

Still a win for Carolina.

Tarmo wasn't getting qualified anyway. Nice to boost the forward core for the AHL playoffs for a guy who didn't play and has been trending downwards the past 2 years.

Only think I can think off, is the two minor league teams needed help at different positions in this case an exchange of a LWer for a Centre. Really a meaningless deal for the Canes and Rangers

I agree. Don't understand the comments where we got nothing out of this?

We took a non factor and added a good forward option for a forward lacking team in Hartford subtracting from a glut of defenseman.
