No. Suck for another year and then move forward with the Suz/Caufield/Romy/Guhle/Barron core. No need to sign Forsberg - keep selling.

I like both but I doubt Oilers and Stars fans agree. IMO prefer Dellandrea 1 for one. I would add a Dmen like Wideman to compensate.

dallas probably only does that if klingberg doesn't resign, might also need to retain a mill.

i highly doubt forsberg has montreal as a team of interest and i don't know why montreal would want him they are clearly in a massive rebuild and he would only delay them from getting better picks and giving young players opportunites, signing forsberg to that price also puts them in a cap crunch and i just don't think he is enough to make montreal competitive enough to compete with Bos, Tampa, Florida and Leafs for a PO spot

i think this season is the beginning of a rather big rebuild for montreal and i wouldn't be surprised if montreal sold on gallagher, price, dvorak, anderson, edmunson throughout the offseason and TD.

i also think offering romanov 4 mill would be a mistake
- he's has been a turnover machine this season
-he plays to aggressive and often takes himself out of the play
- his base stats like hits and blocked shots look impressive but all his advanced analytics like xGA/ xGF, Corsi/ Fenwick, WAR%, even strength defence and offence % are all terrible. He kind of reminds me of Risto at points in both his 2 seasons his even strength defence% were below 25% but atleast last year his offence was at 81% this year it is at 42%. the only analytic he has truly stood out in is his PK%

Wideman is a UFA. I would love a Petry for Dellandrea swap - we can sign Wideman for the year to fill the gap before Barron is ready - eventually, Mailloux can step in too.

Maybe Habs can take back Khudobin instead of retaining?

"I've asked for a Trade to be closer to my Family " - Jeff Petry with the Duncan Keith Explination
His Family lives in DET and will not move for any reason hence the issue here
His Family including his Parents are a big part of their lives and his Dads a living legend there
Its why he insisted on a 15 team NMC/NTC blocking out all the teams that are in the West traditionally

I think to get Petry moved is to hard and he stays in MTL now that Vaccinated people are allowed to travel now more freely
This was his issue after all

But if he was to go really only DET makes sense otherwords why trade him at a loss ?
Only scenario i see him going is if MTL tries to use Petry to land Bertuzzi who would be a wet dream come true for Suzuki-Caufield line

I don't know how much you watch, but the last decade has involved coaches with strategies that force the defense to turnover pucks.
Ducharme was especially bad, as he had our D initiating body contact over playing the puck, and wrapping it around the boards to forwards that were stationary high in the zone, resulting in a lot of turnovers on the half boards in the D zone.
I wouldn't look too much into turnover stats here.

He's a work in progress, but he is showing improvement. The gamble is bridging him and he greatly improves, resulting in a bigger contract within a couple years, or going long term and risking his performance not living up to his contract.
I think the latter is worth the risk, but even if it doesn't work out, it's not difficult to move a young, physical D. Teams are always willing to give one a chance in a different setting.

In theory, I agree. However, the team is trending back towards middle of the pack since the coaching change, and that's without Price. Molson doesn't want this team in the basement for another year, anyhow. If Forsberg can be enticed to come to Montreal, where we already have trouble attracting talent, you pull the trigger now and make the details work later. I don't think there's another UFA I'd do this for.

i think that could be a possibility, i do think dallas are in a bit of a cap crunch but they don't need to free up a whole lot of cap and pavelski's contract will be up after a year so then they shouldn't have a problem having petry. only thing that sucks for dallas is they have 2 big immovable contracts in seguin and benn while also having 2 players expecting massive raises in hintz and robertson the next 2 offseasons

though they are trending upwards i still don't know if they can crack the top 4 in the atlantic yet even with forsberg
they could aim for the 2nd wild car spot in the east but again the metro is a strong divison with hurricans, rangers and pens dominating it, i dont think washington will be slowing down for antoher year or 2 and columbus and jersey have stronger rosters then montreal also i do think NYI will be back to being a solid team again next season. Detroit also was doing very well to start the season and with the amount of cap they have i wouldn't be surprised if they competed aswell.

i do think however until bergy retires B's will stay a PO team
Atlantic most likely staying tampa, florida, B's and leafs for 2 more years
the metro is crazy i can't even predict who will make it as literally 7 of the 8 teams have rosters that could most likely compete for a playoff spot
