I honestly don't know why so many teams are having cap constraints. Maybe it was because they expected the cap to go up. Either way, I think dumba is worth more than that first to minn.

With all due respect, this fiala staying in MIN isn't happening. Russo just released an article saying Guerin is trying to resign dumba to an extension this summer

I'm not sure where his market is at or who exactly would have enough interest to pay premium assets to acquire him. Dallas seems like a team that may have interest in him to replace Klingberg and a 1st seems like a decent base.

Plus, I'm not sure what prospect(s) they'd want to give up so I thought that I'd play it safer with the proposal since he'll be a UFA next offseason and it's also a cap move on Minnesota's end

It's more of a hope than a prediction in all honesty

I would need more than that to move Dumba and I really think it’s clear that the market isn’t there for him. But I agree he is absolutely worth more than a 1st, which is why he’s gonna stay. At least for the time being.

Way way back in history......February 2020, the NHL announced that the 2020/21 cap would be between 84 and 88m. Let's say 86m. Then Covid hit in March 2020. Then it stayed at 81.5 for 20/21 and 21/22 and expected to be 82.5m for 22/23. Teams and players that signed before the Covid scenario were expected the cap to be 90m in 22/23. Really the pre Covid signed contracts have put a squeeze on every team /player for the the past two seasons and even next year.

Dumba. It's still just a one year contract. What Dallas give up a first 6m one year deal. Maybe Dallas would prefer to sign a player maybe not of Dumba standards with cost certainly and term instead of making that trade.

Oilers decline, any kinda deal like this would require money going back Oilers don't have the cap space, and unloading Smith is highly unlikely

Fair, they seem like a spot that people like to dump goalies and I'm not sure how much they trust Skinner yet so I decided to continue the trend thinking it might be enticing with how Talbot has played recently

What do you do in 23-24 when you need to sign Boldy and fill the other spots with 7.5 Million in projected Cap Space? Lets say it goes up to 83.5, still that is only 8.5 to sign Boldy and fill a lot of spots.

In this scenario (which I will admit I don't think is what Guerin has in mind) you bridge Boldy and Addy, Addy will be quite cheap and Boldy won't be too bad. Let's estimate it comes out to about 6ish mil, leaving you about 2.5M to fit 4 more roster spots.

Obviously that won't happen but let's start over then. Dewar and DeSmith don't don't need to add up to 2.45M or exactly be Dewar and DeSmith. Let's say the add up 2M instead leaving you 9M instead of 8.5M to sign Boldy/Addy and 4 more roster spots. 6M is a simple math guesstimation. Now you have 3M to fit the depth. Offload Merril and you save upwards of another 400k at the 6D spot.

3.4M is pretty doable. And 83.5M is the lowest I imagine the cap being in 23-24. It was supposed to be 84+ before covid hit

I think that's the way you not only keep Fiala but also avoid moving any part of the core you may not want to. It wouldn't be easy.
