A 1st round pick is probably a bit much for Walker. Two 2nds probably gets the job done.

I kinda like the eller idea. We have young centers that could use a guy to take some d zone starts.

We don't have the stones to ask for a 2022 first for Sean Walker. The Winnipeg 2022 second and a third is probably enough for him.

i aimed high bc he's a RSD and on a reasonable contract with term.... if it only costs 2 2nds thats even better smile

yeah i think he could be a solid mentor and i also see Buffalo being really competitive next year and he could help win them some games

While I'd rather try and package Zacha in a trade for someone like Garland or Fiala, I wouldn't mind moving him for one of the Caps goalies either.
I'd probably want Devils to accept this trade if offered to them.

Martinez returned two 2nds, I think Walker should probably get the same. Martinez was/is a better defenseman, but as you pointed out, he's not a right-shot, had a higher cap hit, and only had one year remaining on his deal at the time of the trade, so I think it balances out.

If Washington is willing to take on Binnington's contract, they don't of him as a cap dump but rather than as an asset especially if they're giving up Vancek in the process. Blues wouldn't give up a top 20 pick anyway to get rid of his contract.

I mean c’mon, Binnington hasn’t even been bad when you consider how awful the blues defense has been in front him. Not exactly his fault that Husso is absolutely mad

they are getting a 1st round pick in return for taking his contract? "cap dump" is paying to dump salary.... doesnt mean the player isnt usable just means that his $$ amount is way higher than his actual value. Blues use his $$ on Husso and VV theyll both sign likely for what Binnington's contract is currently. Blue should would be extremely lucky if thats all it takes to move his contract esp for how high the $$ is mixed with how average he's been playing smile

its not a question of how bad / "not that bad" he is playing.... more that they can use his 6m elsewhere.... like Husso. i doubt he gets 6m either. Dumping his cap helps them upgrade in other areas

A first round pick is used to trade a player like Marleau, someone who’s unusable, buyout proof, and makes 6.2 million. Binnington starts on 15 teams in the league

Don't see the blues paying a first to movie Binnington no matter how average he looks.

If this were a scenario for a "cap dump", the best a team would give up is a mid to late round pick, not a usable goalie. That's not how cap dump trades work. Also, if he was a cap.dump, Washington would have no interest in even giving him a shot. The moment Washington declares interest in him, the shot of getting a first round pick goes away.
I think it's a terrible contract as a Blues fan, I'm just giving you the reality of the situation.

36.7 quality start percentage is pretty bad no matter how good/bad the team in front has been. He's given up a lot of weak goals and the vast majority of his success is against non-playoff teams. I had little confidence in him last season, even less so this season.

Binnington, 1st for Vanecek

This is a horrible trade for the Caps. The Caps can not afford to take on questionable cap hits at this point. Vanecek will be cheaper and potentially better (or equivalent). The 1st does not make up for the extra cap that the Caps will need elsewhere.
