You need to go 12M on the Forsberg deal short term. He’s likely getting 9-10 long term

I'd say don't tank and don't sign big free agents, let the prospects flow in as the timeline sees fit and the Wings will be contending when their time comes

There should be players that would want to play with the Wings at at fair $$$ and cap which shouldn't affect the long term cap adversity. Maybe it's just me, I don't like the idea of overpaying for short term mercenaries for the Wings.

Does Taylor Hall at 1 x $8,000,000 count?

The only way Yzerman would sign Klingberg is if he moves Filip Hronek, Honestly you're probably looking @ $10,000,000 x 7 years for Filip Forsberg to sign with Detroit. And Forsberg and Klingberg will only sign full term for 7 years. Detroit in their rebuild will pretty much have to outbid other teams for players services. that's just the way it is.

I'm not sure this what the Sabers have done. That being said Yzerman has been signing UFAs to short term and trading for players in their final season or only a year left on their contracts. If you play well or fit he will resign you. He simply doesn't want to be stuck with a player that doesn't fit. Almost every team that tries to speed up the rebuild with trades ends up in the never ending rebuild look at Arizona.

Not really, Hall was expecting a long term expensive deal then Covid and the flat cap hit. Sabres were hoping for a better return at TDL.

That didn't get the sabres to the floor, that put them close to the cap. But yea, you found 1 example

We were hoping to keep eichel happy after he demanded a trade (which he admitted to and then doesn't talk about when he's hurt that he got booed) before his injury.

Seems like 10 year ago considering how long these covid years have been

Your challenge was "Show[n] me one single example." So I did. smile
