Which of Colorados free agents might come back next season

Created by: sensonfire
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 2, 2022
Published: Apr. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Avs have 11 UFAs and 2 RFAs on their main roster right now with about 27 million in cap space.

This is what I think it would take to bring everybody back.

Who do you think will come back with an extension next season?

Let me know your thoughts and I'll see you in the comments.

Massive overpayment for Kadri after one excellent year, and that would take him until he’s 40

He also had a great playoff run with the Avs in 2020 when everybody was in the bubble.

All I can say is that this year's performance by Kadri won't go unnoticed.

8 years for kadri is bananas, I can't see them paying nichushkin 5 million dollars.

I don't think they'll pay to keep Kadri with MacKinnon due a contract the following year.

Probably a bit rich on Manson and Sturm. Cut the roster to 22 and I believe they're under the cap.

It might be bananas, but somebody will massively overpay.

Regardless if it's Colorado or some other team.

Sure someone gives him too much money but no one is giving that kinda term

All it takes is just 1 team out of 32.

It would not surprise me in the slightest.

Of the UFAs:

Kadri - unlikely to be back in Colorado. After a season like this one, someone will give him a big contract.

Kuemper - Probably would be the best goalie option in free agency. I can see the Avs giving him a contract if he has a good playoff run. Avoids us ending in the same situation as last summer.

Burakovsky - could come back, but I bet he’ll be able to get a big contract elsewhere. I am on the fence here.

Nichushkin - imo, the biggest priority UFA for the Avs. He’s a perfect system fit.

Manson - I have no idea what he will cost on the market, but could see him as a JJ/Murray replacement. Otherwise, likely too expensive.

Sturm - I would re-sign, but he can probably find a bigger role elsewhere

Cogliano - could be a Helm replacement. Meh

Helm - I would be shocked if he came back. Disappointing season.

J Johnson - Could go either way. Meh

MacDermid - not a fan of the player, but wouldn’t be surprised if he got a 1 or 2 year contract at <$1M

Murray - slow start to the season and struggled with injuries. Would be surprised if he came back

Kuemper and Nichushkin are top priority. Kadri and Burakovsky will probably leave. Manson could return depending on his asking price and how he performs in the playoffs

Its tough to say for everyone else - there will be tons of UFAs to fill those depth roles around the same price point anyway

Kuemper is 1, Nichushkin 2, Kadri if he takes a friendly deal 3, Burakovsky might be tied to what happens to Kadri.
Manson will have to take a team friendly deal if he wants to be back. Sturm I bet comes back, adios Helm and COGs and probably NAK too COL has a lot of young guys for the 4th line. Jack Johnson if he wants another league minimum deal sure.

I would be shocked if anyone gave him more than 5 years - it's one thing to give a 28-29 y/o 7 years, but a 32 y/o is a different story. One thing is for sure: the Avs will not be giving him the contract you've given him here.

Lehkonen makes more
Kadri deal is an overpay ( hes probably worth 7mil on short term deal and 6-6.5mil on a longer term deal)
Burakovsky might get a little more in FA
