Unfortunately as long as FLA, TBL, TOR and BOS remain in Detriots division, there isnt enough playoff spots to go around

I don't think that we're ready to give up on Max Comtois just yet, and sell him at his low point. I think that we'll hold on until at least next season's trade deadline.

I think Detroit is 2 years away from being a playoff team.

Wild card spots could open up if one of Pittsburgh/Washington fall off next year due to aging core

Theres a difference between being a playoff caliber team and actually making the playoffs.

Sure, DET can be good enough to be a playoff team. but in a division with FLA, TBL and TOR, you are already relegated to fighting for a WC spot with the likes of BOS, WSH and other up and coming team OTT.
If DET played in either West divisions, this wouldnt be a debate.

FLA/TBL/TOR take 3 div spots.
Then you are left fighting BOS/WSH/PIT and other up and coming team in OTT

`Devils could break out too and I wouldn't be shocked if the islanders bounced back as well. Regardless though the point of the post was to show how good of a team detroit can easily become.

2 years is a long time. Lots can change. Yzerman will be adding a lot of really good talent the next few years. Some prospects will take longer to develop than others. But I'm not going to quit being a Red Wings fan just because of the good teams in front of them. Good teams aren't built overnight. You should understand this being an Avs fan.

2 years is a long time, but FLA TBL and TOR are showing no indicators of going from cup contenders to completely missing the playoffs (in a span of 2 seasons).
None of my previous posts or comments made any suggestions for you to quit being a DET fan

You're making it sound like Red Wings fans shouldn't be optimistic. You mention the Leafs? They've won the same number of Playoff rounds in the past 5 years as Detroit has. None. Detroit hasn't made the playoffs since 2016. Tampa will be declining in 2 years when they're older and losing key players to UFA. Boston? Are they replacing an aging Bergeron? I can nitpick teams too. Anyone can.

Nah I think you still hate the Red Wings from the rivalry days. My hatred of the AVS went away a long time ago and I consider Sakic to be one of the best GM's in the NHL. I also value Yzerman in that echelon as well. I'm being realistic saying the Red Wings are 2 years away from being a playoff team. Many hockey fans believe they'll make it next season but I think everything would have to break their way for that to happen.

Theres no hate for DET here. That rivalry is long long dead for many years at this point (especially with DET in the East now).
You are still missing my point. Im not arguing that DET isnt a team strong enough to make the playoffs, im saying the division is too strong at this point to forecast making the playoffs in 2 seasons

The division is too strong for Detroit right now. But it's foolish to think things will be exactly the same 2 years from now. Take the Ducks for example. They'll be light years better 2 years from now than they are right now given all the good young talent they have. Same as Ottawa. Teams improve. Teams regress.

Unfortunately I don't think this is a playoff team. I also don't think Strome is the answer down the middle. Also that's way too much to give up right now for one player, especially when he will be expecting to get paid right when the team is going to be competitive.

Makes no sense for Anaheim to trade Comtois. We will trade for Dallas for future considerations though

Anaheim trade looks nice but I can't see them doing it. Arizona trade would be bad for Detroit in my opinion. We will get a good pick this year. Wallinder is playing awesome in rogle. Not ready to give up on Zadina and Veleno is just getting started. Big overpayment.
