Guys I think Patrik wants to blow this team up

Created by: BeautifulIdiot
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 4, 2022
Published: Apr. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
From the interviews that Allvin has done so far, it sounds like he wants to make his own stamp on this team, the only real anchor contract is OEL, and with a full NMC he aint moving.

I have been able to clear out all the other inefficient contracts, none of these players are bad, they are all NHL calibre players but we need to make more room to make young guys who will take us to the next level.

Patty said that Petey isnt a superstar but I think he has what it takes to be one, and I think the first step is getting rid of JTM so petey can not only become the leader of this team, but also become the star of this team.

I dont hate the idea of getting more out of OEL than what he is doing right now. He can play the right side, I think that if he were to be Hughes's stay at home defencive partner, it could be a good option going forward. Hughes and schenn was a nice story but its showing its signs of being old news, OEL can skate better and has the 2 way capabilities to help Hughes to become the best defenceman he can be.

Let me know your thoughts.

Trades are not super solidified, there might be some pieces that could get moved around, the idea is more what we're going for here.

Copp is getting resigned especially if it were that cheap, but will likely be more than $5 mil.

Minimally Copp gets $5,000,000 x 4-5 years if not slightly more. He's not signing that low ball offer in Vancouver.

No Cap, no prospects, not a lot of picks, not a good team, that sounds like a rebuild to me

I think every team in the league with the cap space would try if this is all it took.

I'm still hoping that Yzerman brings Copp home to Detroit as our 2C i'd gladly give him $5,500,000 x 5 years to be our 2C until something better comes along anyways.

you raised a valid point, I tried using the contract comps but it lead me astray, I will trust your word and do a 5x5.25

Fair, but you agreed that he would sign for more than 5m, and I gave him that, again, not looking for specifics, more at the general picture.

Trouble is there are many cap strapped team they aren't wanting Canucks (I'll quote you)" I have been able to clear out all the other inefficient contracts,"
One reason the Canucks are in their middling position....is because of inefficient contracts.....and they are staying in Vancouver.

    Canucks have some good pieces

Demko, at worst is a top 10 goalie, likely top 5

    Stud offensive D in Hughes

    High end playmaker in Pettersson

Solid two-way C and captain in Horvat.

I think the Canucks make a significant change or two, but it's not worth burning it down. There are pieces here, find players to help the core and then decide what to do with Miller.

Gotta think Michigan boy Copp has lot better career and life style options than Canucks, even if Vancouver make the best $$$ offer.

Yeah he'd be better off with the Rangers then with Vancouver. Or basically anywhere else for that matter. I see him staying in the States i doubt he has any more interest in playing in Canada from the sound of things,

So then why sign Copp or Boeser even?

I don't think Van is a bad team, a full season with BB will make a difference, do need to make some additions but I think they're better then tearing it down and wasting years of Quinn, Demko and Pettersson.

If you want a 2022 draft pick for Miller, that means the trade needs to occur before the draft. Miller isn't able to sign an extension until free agency day in July.

There's no way LA agrees to a deal like that for unextended JT Miller. Honestly, I don't think they'd give up that haul even if he comes extended.

As you suggest Kings can wait for UFA if they really want him. And you're right, Kings have centres and can spend their on other needs better than Miller, plus the Kings keep their young assets.
IMO in summer of 2024, Kopitar leaves or takes a big pay cut and the next big name player for the Kings is UFA Austen Matthews.

This is my take too, they're not so bad to tear it down and a retool will take a few years so its just more wasted time.

They have too many good pieces to waste years in a rebuild, its just a good way to piss off Hughes, Demko and others and risk the trade requests coming in.

Playing in Canada has been tough on some Americans during the Covid restrictions. Winnipeg has I believe the second worse travel schedule in league. The Metro has an easy travel schedule and the Atlantic is nice too. Maybe UFAs who are about 28 years of age, have families might like less travel and more home time. Even as Canadian, (if I was an NHLer) Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary feel "isolated" from the rest of the cities in the league.

Everyone wants a rebuild, because you think of players like McDavid and Matthews. Chances are you aren't getting a player like that though. Heck, the Canucks could rebuild (again) and they may not get players better than Pettersson or Hughes.
