My only thought is that if the Wings acquire Pettersson do they really need to sign Staal?

My hope here is that Edvinsson would be good enough to pair with Seider. Pettersson with Hronek. And Staal with Lindstrom.

“Everyone” is saying that Edvinsson is Seider 2.0

That kind of worries me. LOL But I trust Yzerman's drafting. I also trust Lidstrom's evaluation. They're both very excited about Edvinsson.

Lidström is equally excited about Johansson as is Håkan Andersson.

Yeah he kind of gets forgotten about with all the Edvinsson hype but Johansson and Wallinder are both very good prospects as well. 🙂

That’s my hope as well but I wanted to play it safe.

Depends on how you view Walman. Staal for 1 year for less than 2M wouldn’t hurt.

A better option than signing Staal again would be to get Schmidt for a 3rd. That would give us both insurance against Edvinsson/Johansson/Viro needing time in GR and also give us someone to QB our 2nd PP which we don't have with your setup.

Schmidt is young enough and good enough to be traded after a year or two for a profit so won't really hinder the kids.

I'd love to see:
Schmidt - Seider
Pettersson - Hronek
Walman - Lindström
Oesterle or Juolevi
...start the next season. Then trade Oesterle/Juolevi at the TDL and call up the best of the kids and make new decisions after next season.

I almost added Schmidt but I don’t think that Yzerman trades a 2nd and a 3rd in the same draft. I also don’t love Schmidt’s cap hit but that’s not a huge immediate issue.

Pettersson shouldn't cost more than a 3rd. Detroit would be giving up two 3rds to get a LD that's solid for over a decade and they'll get back the picks, with interest, when the kids are ready to fly.
