Canucks are not in the position to be trading first round picks. You can have Boeser or Garland for that

So the changes needed are to trade assets for underwhelming returns and take on a cap dump? Seems like a good way for a gm to get the boot to me.

Yes, if we lose first round I don't think any of these players are safe, I wouldn't say anyone except Crosby or Guentzel is. It's insanity if we have another first round exit then run it back again. This gets us a first, second, and third, plus two tougher players, which is what we need.

I think Marino alone would get them both, maybe not Boeser, but definitely Garland.

I think it would get Garland pretty easily. Boeser maybe maybe not depends on his contract status

Why would the Habs give up Gallagher if there not receiving anything of value in return. Only way Zucker is a Habs is if Armia is a Penguin

It helps them get out of the contract. Zucker has 1 more year left versus 5 for Gallagher.

And I would rather have Gallagher and his 20-30 goals per year for 5 years than Zucker and his >10 goals for 1 year.

That's a fair point, but I think this can get done though if we throw in a little more. I was just trying to gague what it would take, but makes sense it would be more given that Gallagher is more productive.

TBH, I think if you want Gallagher and want to include Zucker in the deal you are going to have to add at least a 1st MAYBE a 1st + 3rd (or equivalent prospects) which if I am the Pens I would say is too rich.

I don't think the Habs are looking to move Gally but Maybe at a minimum given his age, contract length and injury history MAYBE you could get him for 2 2nds or equivalent prospects (I am not sure though TBH, he could very well be our next captain)

That is just not true at all in the slightest. I love both players, but it is very convievable that we won't be able to bring back both. Letang has asked for a 5 year contract, which isn't concievable for the team. It's going to come down to him deciding whether he would rather get what he wishes out of a contract or settle for less and stay on the Pens. If we lose first round this year big changes could come. I love both players, but after a 4th straight first round exit nothing is off the table. No one is really safe besides Crosby and most likely Guentzel. I don't understand how me having a different opinion is disrespectful, the whole point of this is to see different views/opinions and engage. That's what makes it fun...

My logic is this:

Marino: probably would get a 2nd
POJ: 2nd or 3rd
Kapanen: 3rd or 4th

All that combined I'd say warrants a first

(you are giving 5x8 to klingberg why not give it to Letang? I'd rather keep it down to 7 but if you are willing to give up 8.....)

imo you just resign geno and tanger for what they want for how long they want. (geno already said he is fine taking a paycut to stay) idc if we suck for the next 8 years we need to try and win one more with this three gods.

plus if have have to be honest the team you put up here is worse than this years

You think he'd get a first? I'm not saying it's impossible, I could see it. Especially if the market commands it like with Chairot then I could see it, but I don't think its definte he would.

Well it's been reported management is very hesitant to give him 5 years. I see where your coming from and I'm not against them all staying. This is just one possibility I made, but isn't the only direction I'd be fine going. But if they stay I think major changes are needed, whether changing the system or the adding more physicality/skill.

outside opinion: I'd rather pay $8M for Klingberg's age 30-34 seasons than $7M for Letang's age 35-39 run. I know he's been important to the team, but I think you get 2 okay years and 3 years you regret from that deal if you make it. Plus, Letang being 35 can potentially add additional headaches with his deal.

If Geno's willing to take a pay cut, give him the $5.5M that OP has going to Trocheck. I think that's a fair number for a guy who's been effective when healthy the past few years, but has trouble staying healthy. Gives them room to add a player if he's hurt.

As far as the Gallagher-Zucker trade, wonder if you can make it Armia-for-Zucker with a pick swap added on (favoring Pittsburgh)? Clears more immediate cap room for Pittsburgh to add for Crosby's twilight years while giving them a player who can probably give you a decent imitation of what Zucker has been bringing.
