I don’t think Buffalos future has been brighter than now in the past 10 years. There’s actually guys who wanna build something in Buffalo. Granato is doing a great job there. I think they’re obviously missing a future 1C and a top 4RD, but if they get those things (easier said than done) they could be a real threat in 3-5 years

Obviously, you've got the makings of a fine forward corps there. And LD is set for the foreseeable future, too. As my friend @AndrewLadd so accurately says, you need a top-4 RD, but the biggest hole I see is at goaltender.

I’d be willing to bet one of UPL or Levi become a really good goalie. I think they also have the potential of a great tandem one day. Portillo is another underrated goalie prospect

Yes, I have Levi and Portillo on my horizon (particularly the latter), but you know how iffy goalie prospects can be . . .

Yeah that’s also very true, but with 2 good goalie prospects and UPL whose been good in a small sample size in the NHL I’d be a lot more worried about a future 1C. Thompson and Cozens are good, but I have my doubts either of them are future 1C material

As a Leaf fan, ....I could certainly see the Sabres, Wings and Sens, soon be very good teams in the Atlantic. All have a good young players, prospects and more picks in the next few years, and each has lots of cap now and in the next few years to really solidify their lineup.
In the spring of 2025. Tampa, Florida, Leafs, Bruins, Sabres, Wings and Sens all finish with between 90 and 100 points....And that might continue for a few years.
I don't have the same faith that Montreal is going to be a top team,

As you see andrew they also have roughly 35 mil in cap as well as three 1st round picks to possibly go out at acquire those needs. Just hoping they stick to short term deals

I think it all hinges on whether or not Tage is a one season wonder. if he can keep the momentum going, it takes off so much pressure from the rest of the team. If he falls back to what he was then they dont really have a #1C and that will eat up another few years of this rebuild

Trying not to get too hyped over a small sample size. But over the last 17 games they have been fantastic. Winning games not just by puck luck or goalies playing out of their minds has me pretty optimistic about this group.

It would be a she to not add to this group for next year tho. I think it would be foolish to spend a lot of assets because even with an improved team making it through the gauntlet of Florida Toronto Tampa and Boston is gonna be tough. So I think their true window is about 2- 3 years from now. But they absolutely should use their cap space to at the very least address Goalie and a RHD.
Whether that's Ufa or a trade. If it's a trade I wouldn't mortgage more than. Fla 1st. Mitts. And one prospect not named Quinn peterka power or levi.

He was quoted earlier this week regarding how happy he was to be traded to Buffalo and that he is looking forward to starting his professional career there. That said, he’s going back to school one more year. I think a little more free development is not a bad thing, and he probably wants a legitimate shot at the Hobey Baker next year and a national championship. Unless northeastern gets a lot of really good transfers I don’t see them necessarily winning a national title, but Devin Levi was practically unbeatable for large stretches during the year.

I agree, and I think we are gonna hit out heads on the ceiling if our 1C is cozens or Thompson. Unfortunately we aren't gonna get a franchise center at pick 10. I figure we address right d and goalie and then we end up being good enough to either just miss the playoffs.

Thompson has over 30 goals this year in his first year at center, with Tuch who was middle six in Vegas and Skinner who was terrible the last two years at his wings. That’s pretty close to 1C. I think the rest of the roster will soon makeup up for the lack of a superstar 1C to make the playoffs.

Well the the 1C might be overrated. Maybe it's easier and just as good is to have three # 2s.

Right now your pick is #8 and it's unlikely that you'll fall more than one slot, unless San Jose or Anaheim suffers a complete collapse.

Speaking of Anaheim, remember that the Ducks got Trevor Zegras at #9.

I disagree. Not that it can't happen, but recent history of cup winners doesn't support that. Tampa, st Louis, washington, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, boston- you are looking at stamkos/point, ror, backstrom/Kuznetsov, toews, crosby/malkin, Kopitar (ironically, the other kings team had carter/Richardson that was probably two #2s), and Bergeron. I feel like that's a fair amount of "you need a #1 center to win", and I feel like for the Sabres to try to do it a different way is- a team that hasnt been able to get out of their own way for the last decade, thinking that they can be smarter than everyone else.
