vaaaaaaancouuuuuuuveerrrrrr canuuuuuuuucks

Created by: TunaXD
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 6, 2022
Published: Apr. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is terribly unrealistic, simply a pipe dream from a sad canucks fan.

I think the Canucks are relatively close to playoff contention, with some internal growth from the likes of Pettersson, Hughes, Podkolzin and Hoglander. With Calgary likely losing a big name, Vegas in cap hell, and an already weak division, there is no reason the canucks can’t make a run here.
Vancouver’s window for success is set as Thatcher Demko makes only 5 million. We need to start competing.

The curse of Benning will haunt the Canucks for years, as even the contracts I moved are likely not moveable. We do the best with what we can at this point I guess.

In a perfect world, Geekie falls to Vancouver, and can replace Malkin after his two year deal is up, again, pipe dream.

1.
VAN
  1. 2022 7th round pick (NYI)
OTT
  1. Myers, Tyler
  2. 2023 5th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Doesn’t have to be Ottawa, but surely someone would pay a bag of pucks for myers… right?
2.
VAN
  1. Lafrenière, Alexis
  2. Lundkvist, Nils
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Laf could flourish in an expanded role, but comes with a risk. Lundkvist seems to be in a bit of a log jam on the right side in New York, could be a decent asset. 3rd for the years worth of retention.
NYR
  1. Miller, J.T. ($2,625,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Maybe a first round exit gets NYR desperate enough to pull the trigger? Miller has shown that he is a bonafide 1st line player who can play anywhere and in any situation, exactly the player they need to push them over the edge.
3.
VAN
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi [RFA Rights]
  2. Marino, John
Additional Details:
A long term staple for Hughes is the Canucks biggest need right now, Marino fits the bill. He is also coming off an off year so to speak, therefore his value shouldn’t be through the roof. Rutherford loves Kapanen, almost too much. Kapanen would provide some much needed depth scoring and speed.
PIT
  1. Boeser, Brock [RFA Rights]
  2. Schenn, Luke
Additional Details:
I truthfully believe that Boeser will succeed in the NHL, just not so sure that it will be in Vancouver. Brock has legitimate 35-40 goal potential, and one shot scorers are extremely rare these days. Schenn gives the Pens some stability on the right side, although Pittsburgh will likely need to find a true replacement elsewhere.
4.
VAN
  1. 2022 7th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Dallas really has no risk here, at worst they simply move up from a 7th to a 3rd for free. At best they rekindle Dickinsons former glory with the stars, and they get some more depth at forward.
DAL
  1. Dickinson, Jason
Additional Details:
He has not worked in Vancouver at all. Find a team willing to give him a shot

Apparently having over 20 points and being a factor on defence is an off year? Well. Must be a hell of an off year to have…

Just compared to his rookie year, still worth a substantial amount though

There's little risk in taking Dickinson, but there's also little incentive in bringing him back.

The thing is we're gonna be right up the cap, and we do have better use for that almost $3M bucks than another 4th liner. We have enough of those.

So Stars decline.

Fair enough, tough to see such an effective player fall off a cliff :/

Would it be better if the Stars add Glendening in that package?

Not really, because Luke has pretty much the same impact or better at pretty much half the price.

I could definitely see that Boeser trade being a thing. I'm sure Canucks would like to hold onto Schenn but if that's the sticking point for Pittsburgh then you probably let him go.

Me too, I know that the pens’ right side is very weak with Marino gone, so this just made sense as I felt the value needed to be slightly altered in Pittsburghs favour

Would have to be a Faksa for Dickie swap. I miss Dickie but I’m realistic about the fact that he’s an overpaid middle six guy and we already have too many of those

Fair. Adding Miller would definitely have you competing for the division, and Laf has been very disappointing thus far. The trade was banking on a first round exit this year, which may give them the incentive to go for it next year.
