5 more years of that cap is going to cost more than a 1st round pick in 2 years time I'm afraid.

You would probably have to give up something that would make you squirm with the thought of moving that piece.

The alternative would be retaining a portion (1.5m perhaps) on the deal and giving up a 22 or 23 1st rounder.

I don't think its that bad if the hawks are going to do a proper rebuild. A first round pick is a potential top 6 forward or top 4 D, by the time OELs contract is done the Hawks will be contending again.

A 24' 1st isn't going to hold the value required to take 5 years of 7m+ IMO

I could see the retention. Trading a first with some retention is probably better than buying him out.

Would just have to be an earlier pick for us to warrant it IMO. a 24' pick is just too far away if we really want to kickstart the rebuild and use up the final years of Kane whilst bringing through the next crop of stars like Cat.
