I’d still worry about the defence personally. Peeke and Werenski haven’t been good recently and Boqvist and Christianson are both offensive defenseman imo. I look at Colorado as an example, on offensive guy(Makar) and a two way guy(Toews), an offensive guy(Girard) with a defensive guy(Manson/E.Johnson) and 2 two way guys who play more defensive (Murray,Byram,J.Johnson,E.Johnson). To me Columbus has 3 offensive defenseman in Werenski, Bean(you’ve traded), Boqvist and Christianson (now up before bean) and 3 defensive defenseman in Gavrikov, Peeke and now Lyubushkin. With this group I’d also sign Kukan back as he’s been pretty good this season. Then I’d run;
Werenski - Lyubushkin
Gavrikov - Boqvist
Kukan/Christianson/Bean - Peeke
Carlsson is just awful and not an NHL player imo and Bay is a good 8 to play limited minutes with injuries.
As for the forwards i can see jarmo trying to trade Bemstrom, Foudy, Nyquist and possibly Texier (if he gets the right package), lines is run;
Laine - Jenner (or Roslovic) - Voracek
Johnson - Sillinger - Bjorkstrand
Chinakov - Roslovic (or Jenner) - Marchenko
Robinson - Karuly - Danforth/Texier/Foudy
*jenner and Roslovic play where they are needed, the young Russians might need a better defensive center so play Jenner with them and let the top line run offensively.
Just my thoughts on how this offseason might go, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes. I’d also be interested to see if Johnson or Marchenko sign before the end of the season to get a few games in this year vs waiting till next year to see where they are.
