Goaltending has to be affordable

Description
A scenario i can see playing out.

Tyson Barrie will get a second, a 3rd at the least.

Vitek vanecek is my guy, he has solid numbers over a few seasons but i believe that washington will get a veteran to help mentor samsonov who i believe is their long term plan. Vitek is young enough to grow with the core and is already a better goaltender than any of our options. 3 yrs at 2.75 seems like around the money young up and coming goalies are getting (forsberg) (nedeljkovic) (vejmelka) and others. From what i have read it seems the organization signed fanti because they have concerns about konovalov heading back to the KHL, i can see him staying around in a organization with a lot more russian players like washington, he has legitimate skill. Samorukov is a solid prospect but i feel he has been passed by niemo who is bigger, more violent, and skates better.

Kane should win his settlement meaning he can take around 4 mil to stay with MCD.
JP on a 6 yr deal should get around 4 if kotkiniemi got 4.8x 8
Yams should be bridged, while i love his play i have concerns about his size and Xavier bourgault, carter savoie, and raphael lavoie are percolating in the system.

I see holloway as the perfect winger for the nuge, big, fast, slightly physical, makes a great pass and is a posession driver at every level. Also allows him to break into the league with a savvy pair of vets in nuge and ryan (who has turned his game around on the wing)

i like tyler motte as a 4th line guy who can PK and throw in the occasional amount of offense whilst being defensively responsible. I dont think kass can be moved easily so figured keep him around.

Kulak is a must keep for me, hometown guy who has settled in nicely and i see him as a great longterm partner for bouchard.

Keith and broberg have been steady together and on the third pair i can see them doing well.

Skinner has demonstrated to me that he is very capable of being a backup in the NHL if not a 1b.

Also i have a sneaking suspicion mike smith gets a career ending "medical procedure" done this offseason and then says "oh i gritted through it for the boys and pushed through the pain last season but unfortunately in view of being healthy and leading a life outside of hockey i need to take some time and ensure i recover fully yatta yatta yatta.

That way his pride stays intact and he can retire without saying his play fell off a cliff.

unfortunately i think edmonton will offer kuemper 6x5 or Husso 5x2. They aren't going anywhere with below .918 goaltending.

foegele is worth a second round pick.

His play has been top notch when healthy though. Actually you could argue that he's not healthy right now, yet he's still stopping pucks at a great rate.

He could retire in the summer, but I don't think poor play when injured will have anything to do with it.

I don't think that Warren Foegele is on our wish list. Aside from Alex Iafallo and Trevor Moore, we have Carl Grundstrom, Alex Turcotte and other left-handed forwards we're going to be trying to find playing time for. And we've been experimenting this past month with a "kids line" of Rasmus Kupari - Quinton Byfield - Gabe Vilardi, in which the wingers are both right-handed (meaning that Grundstrom or Brendan Lemieux or Lias Andersson is on the fourth line), so I don't see the roster space for Foegele.

Husso has had one hot 14 game stretch, otherwise he's been average or below. He's not worth that contract.

Foegele for Soucy in the summer. You heard it here first.

i would do foegs for soucy.

In that situation i would not sign kulak to an extension. But i have loved kulak since he has been an oiler, silky smooth skating, defends transition well, and is pleasnatly offensive which i did not expect.

Oilers attempt to finally fix their goaltending problem by getting an unproven goalie whos had some small glimpses of great play but no real track record of being an established true NHLer...
Where have i see this before?

Hasn't Vanecek kinda passed Samsonov on the Caps goalie depth chart?

It would be easy to just sign kuemper but it doesnt seem to work that way for edmonton. They have to take what they can get.

The cost to acquire Vanek will be higher - add in a 2nd rounder at least. Kane will want more (and probably get it somewhere else) - a deal in the 4.5-6M range. Kassian is not a useful player at this point - trade him or buy him out.
