I would do that from a Habs stand point if the Sens threw in a 1st or Greig for the additional 2 years of the white contract.

Haha, no they don't. It makes zero sense for Montreal regardless,

lol

White's contract is twice as long, 1.35 Mil more expensive AND their production is pretty much the same over their careers. Sure Byron is 7 years older but if they were the same age we could get both the 1st and Greig for the difference in contract term and money.

if the sens arent getting any value back for white they may as well keep him. Hes overpaid sure but hes a net positive player. If it doesnt work out they may as well just buy him out instead of taking back another aging asset

yeah the sens arent paying a 1st or their best prospect to dump him, hes overpaid absolutely but he can actually play hockey. If he had byrons AAV nobody would be complaining.

He has a super cheap buyout too so its low risk for the sens or anyone else who wants try him out, definitely not worth using a 1st or greig to offload him

I would do all three of those trades.

Plus there is a chance Klefbom could come back (will he?) and he's a very solid defenceman.

I don't disagree with you about any of that, I was just saying that given the term and cap hit it would cost a minimum of a 1st+ to move him, taking back Byron actually helps to lower the cost to dump him to just the 1st. Now if you had gone Armia for White (one year longer for White's contract) then I could see that as close to a 1 for 1 swap.

Habs don’t consider that white trade unless theyre getting draft capital or prospects to take on that contract

yeah but what im telling you is that since white is not a complete 0 and is actually good unlike some of the cap dumps weve seen recently, your expectation is wildly unrealisitic. If he was 4 million dollars overpaid, sure, but hes not hes *maybe* 1 million overpaid which gives him actual value as a player. His inflated cap brings his value down absolutely but its not even in the stratosphere of a cap dump to that magnitide

would you use one of the habs 1st round picks or sean farrell to trade away dvorak? because theyre almost in the exact same situation

he still has pretty solid middle 6 upside, hes at worst a 3rd line player and with how cheap his buyout is its such a low risk move for any team willing to bank on his upside. He could honestly be a good fit on the habs third line if gallagher bounces back and can play at a 2nd line level again

The insanity of this comment.

OTT isnt cap crunched, theyre not paying 1sts to dump a slightly overpaid 24yo C

I really want nothing to do with Kassian or Byron, they are just clogging up roster spots that should go to the likes or Kelley, Sokolov, Greig, Lodin, etc.

I would love to get in Leblanc but that offer is weak, Also Sharks are not taking on bad contracts they have their own issues with the likes of Karrason, Vlasic, Burns making big $$$.

I would take Klefbom swapping bad contract for another. Last I heard there is only a very slight chance he ever comes back, but if it moves out a problem then just creates LTIR so be it.

It was a good trade for both sides, hoping that Smilanic reaches his potential.

I wouldn't do any of these. Here's why

1) Kevin Labanc makes MORE money than Zaitsev for the last 2 years of his contract ($11,750,000 vs $9,000,000)

Where would you play Labanc? He won't be good enough to be a solution in the top-6 wings and there's many cheaper/better guys that you want in the bottom-6. Would you bench someone like Formenton or Joseph to give Labanc some minutes? I wouldn't. I would much rather bury Zaitsev in the AHL, or keep him as the 7th D-man, or even buy him out.

2) I wouldn't mind this in a vaccum as Byron is decent and a likeable guy but don't want to give White to a divisional rival. Would much rather buy him out (very cheap : $5,250,000 split over 6 years) and hope that a Western team sign him. We also don't need Byron at all, big log jam comin gup on the wings.

3) This doesn't accomplish anything for Edmonton. Murray might not even get cleared for contact again, high chance he ends up on LTIR

LOL! That's one of the most delusional takes I have seen on CF recently, and man there's a lot of competition

White is a pretty decent 3rd liner, overpaid by about 1.25 per season... 3 years left is totally manageable (not 2)

Ottawa is obviously not going to give up Greig (or a 1st) for a contract they could buy out for very cheap (maybe you didn't know that?)

I wouldn't even trade Greig for anyone in the Habs organization outside of Caufield, and Suzuki (and management/coaching) so of course not going to give him for absolutely no reason. I like Guhle too but with Chabot and Sanderson, there won't be many minutes available on LD

Same. Also, that trade is pretty useless for Edmonton. Like I said above, Murray might not even get cleared for contact again. Basically swapping LTIR contracts and Sens getting Kassian. We don't need him, we won't want him. I'd rather just keep good guy Watson instead.
