If Power Plays Well On The Right

Created by: Chapee44
Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 9, 2022
Published: Apr. 9, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
3 goalies is weird but if we imagine a 35-32-15 game share, then barring injuries it could make some sense. An added benefit to this is more games for everyone in rotation at the bottom of the lineup on forward and defense.

Used a draft pick value chart from St. Lawrence U for reference on the Philly trade. Could also work with NJD at 4 if Nemec goes 3rd.

5-Matthew Savoie
9-David Jiricek
12-Jonathan Lekkerimakki or Frank Nazar

Also fully plausible but KA spoke about trying Power on the right and if he sticks there then him and Samuelsson could be an unreal pairing. I think Dahlin, Power, and Samuelsson are all top 4D and getting one to the right side opens up lots of opportunities. Braun, Fitzgerald and Bryson are reasonably a rotation here with the youth getting priority in my lineup. Plus injuries always happen.

Thought they said Dahlin. They need to get Johnson signed. Think he could make the transition very smoothly to RD.

I would like to keep Johnson but also see him as a valuable trade chip. Dahlin and Samuelsson would also be a great pair. But either way, one of Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson will hopefully be able to play on the right.

Cool, personally I wouldn't move Johnson. He has top 4 written all over him.

Minnesota Declines so does dumba with his 15 team no trade. Also, Guerin is trying to resign dumba, so he's really not available

Due to the nature of the NHL draft, it's so rare for teams to trade down out of a top 5 pick. The chances of getting a star drop drastically.

We see it more in the NFL because the compensation the team receives in insane and you can trade down and still get an immediate impact player.

Adams and Granato mentioned Dahlin on RD. Power does not need to be played RD, it makes little sense, Dahlin has experience playing RD.

don’t see why philly would trade a top 5 pick for that package. it would cost buffalo’s 9th overall plus the other non-fla 1st assets to get philly’s 5OA at the very least i’d think

My thinking is moving Dumba allows room to get Fiala resigned. I can't imagine Dumba would really use his NTC one year from being a UFA when he can get dealt to a contender of his choosing at the deadline once Buffalo retains if they aren't playoff bound himself which I think they will be. If he's enamored with being in Minnesota only then sure but if he's moving on anyways then why not?

Ah I misunderstood. That still gives us:
Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Dumba
For a top 4 in this situation which I'm down for.

I know it's a long shot I just went by the value chart with an idea. We have a lot of assets to use. The thought with Philly is that they may want to do a mini rebuild as they seem to be more than one piece or a year or two of seasoning from being relevant. They also have a bigger need on D than up front which can be filled later in the draft. And more picks is better for that.

philly’s biggest need (like every rebuilding team) is elite level talent. high draft picks are the easiest way to acquire that. at 5 they have a great shot at nemec and jiricek if they decide they need D. there’s no value in trading down with buffalo for a pick lower than buffalo’s own first

I’m not sure that’s good value Going to Minnesota. Johnson would be amid 4 other ld prospects. They are quite set on that with lambos,, Peart, o’rourke and hunt all about the same age or a year older. Probably would need to drop Johnson and add someone else. A higher center pick or a 1st

I don't think those picks will be available at those slots. Kinda think Savoie might go higher than 5th, Jiricek higher than 9th, Lekkerimäki and Nazar higher than 12th and Casey and Nelson higher than 44th.

But he doesn't and Guerin doesn't want to either. It's been made clear he's not resigning fiala.
