If VAN declines that (given it involves a Top5 pick) there's no hope for them.

Imo this is bad for NJ.

Canucks are nothing without Demko, he’s untouchable

I’d say both teams should decline. NJ shouldn’t give up a high pick just to get a goalie and Canucks shouldn’t be trading away someone that is not easily replaceable

It’s a bold move. But if Blackwood turns out even close to what we had hoped, it could be especially brutal.

Vancouver doesn't accept, Demko is considered untouchable right now.

Vancouver declines, And John Gaudreau is getting closer to $10,000,000 x 7 years.

It all depends on the price. Imo this is just way too good of an opportunity - especially since you guys didn't get Guenther last year.

This has the makings of Gibson situation where there is a great goalie stuck in a system that is not going to contend any time soon. I'd consider capitalizing on Demko's value before his play gets weaker, which has statistically happened with Gibson.

Gotta think Johnsson could fetch better than a 4th, I haven't watched many Devils games but his point totals are decent for his minutes played and his cap hit is manageable.

Okay, so my immediate reaction to this was no chance, but this is an interesting proposition. Demko has been great and is one of the best goalies in the league BUT Ian Clark has proven himself to be one of the best goalie coaches in the league. He has made Demko and Marky into elite goalies for us so if it means getting a top 5 pick and a promising goalie in Blackwood, I would at the very least give it a good bit of consideration

I'm a Canucks fan. This is enticing. Take back Poolman's contract, then we accept. Blackwood-Martin duo in net. Not ideal, but imagine if the pick gets is Shane Wright or Logan Cooley. That kind of ELC might be the missing key to contention.

@Devil should I make an ACGM of this from Vancouver's perspective?

Not really. Vancouver without Demko is like the Devils rn. Trash defense, trash goaltending= getting blown out each game. We have a bonafide franchise goaltender and we aren’t trading it away for question marks. Blackwood may turn into anything but it probably isn’t worth risking going back into the “goalie graveyard” days

If the Canucks get a couple solid RD then there is no reason for Demko to decline. Usually teams don’t trade away their best player who is just entering their prime so they can cash in on their value in the worry they will decline some day

The Canucks are nothing without Demko. It’s been like this for years. Markstrom and Demko kept the franchise somewhat afloat. Ruthford has made it pretty clear that he’s willing to trade away everyone on the team before he trades Demko

Fwiw Nucks haven't been much of anything with Demko either. I think they need a huge rebuild now because their prospect pool is empty.

Things are not exactly bright for them.

Canucks decline. Blackwood has potential, but hasn't proved he's a true #1 yet IMO (partly because he can't stay healthy), and Demko is an ELITE goalie. He plays with the likes of Myers, Ekman-Larsson, and Poolman as his "defense", and still has a .917 SV%. He reminds me of Saros, in the sense that the team would not have a hope of the playoffs without him. If he was on, say, the Canes, he's a Vezina contender. Put Blackwood in his stead and the Canucks are back to square one.

Would disagree 4 points out of a playoff spot have been one of the better teams in the league under Boudreau while they still need some help don't think blowing up the core is the way to do it

And would be much much much below average if it weren’t for Demko. It’s hard being good plating behind Myers, Poolman, Hamonic for most of your career

.638 points % under Boudreau isn't really average while there isn't many prospects in the pipeline its because its a young core that have graduated rathbone and Klimovich look good, we will have another 1st round pick this upcoming draft to help build more depth in the prospect pool the team is really only missing a true #1 RHD and there is a good chance we can get that in this draft, it's now about building a good supporting system around the core, don't need to blow it up to do that imho

This year draft has a bunch of good forwards and a not that many dmen. Canucks have around the 15th pick. All of the RHD prospects are at the top of the draft or towards the end of the first round. Canucks won't find a true #1 RHD with their first round pick. Teams like the Devils, Kraken, Flyers, and Sabres would take Jiricek or Nemec before he reaches the Canucks pick
