  3. 2022 2nd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
DET could use a veteran LD to support Seider, Hronek, and Lindstrom as well as a backup G so getting both those things without paying and also getting an asset in return is a coup

Both contracts expire before any cap crunch might arise (Seider, Raymond, Hronek, & Vrana)

Martinez doesn't have negative value, I also doubt he waives to Detroit

You're kidding right? Martinez is from the same hometown as Trouba Rochester, Michigan, And he was going to sign with Detroit but chose to stick with Vegas. he'd 100% waive for Detroit it's probably his first choice. And when you're up against the cap. you have to do what you have to do to clear salary.

Vegas has many options to get under the cap, I am fairly confident that there would be a lot of interest if Martinez is made available.

I also have never seen anything about him wanting to sign in Detroit, do you have a link to this?

So there could be tons of teams interested in Martinez, But can they afford him especially playoff teams. As far as a link no it was only rumored that both he and Detroit had a mutual interest in a deal. Not that one was remotely close or going to happen.

I think there would be a ton of interest in Martinez from teams not on his NMC personally. So, with that said...what are you sending Vegas' way to make this a fair trade? All I see is positive value going to Detroit and nothing coming back?

I would imagine NYI would be all over him and I consider them a more likely playoff team than Detroit

Red Wings would definitely be interested in Martinez and Brossoit plus a 2nd. We have the need and Cap space to take both players. 🙂

I think Detroit should go after Martinez for sure and I'd obviously take this in a heartbeat. With that said, your valuation is off. Martinez is not a cap dump. Because of the injury, age and contract, he's not going to net a good return for Vegas, but they won't have to pay to move him.

The point was I was viewing Vegas' cap situation as desperate enough to require them to pay a pick for a team to take on 7.5mil in cap. The cap space was the value. It seems others disagree that that would be necessary, at least for Martinez.

So using the Schmidt trade from a couple years ago, he'd net something like a 3rd in return which, in my scenario, would likely become a 4th as they'd also be absorbing Brossoit's 2.3mil. Does that strike you as reasonable?

Martinez + Brossoit to DET for a 4th

It's not so much that Martinez has negative value as it would be that Vegas is SO desperately in need of cap space that other teams extort them. Of course, most people seem to agree with you so I'll need to adjust my understanding of the situation.

Would you still be interested in the amended deal above (Martinez + Brossoit for a 4th)?

I would. But Martinez's value is all over the place on here. I'd prefer Pettersson for a 3rd. He's much younger (9 years) than Martinez.

Martinez for a mid round pick or B prospect straight up. No interest in Brossoit.

I kinda want to see them add Petterson for a 3rd and Martinez for a prospect that is caught in our logjam at LHD (Viro Eemil comes to mind)

I've posted ACGM's with both Martinez and Pettersson but am usually told that Staal is missing. I have Edvinsson on the 3rd D pair with Lindstrom. Viro looks like he could be squeezed out but that'll be determined down the road. No spot for McIsaac either.

Edvinsson realistically needs a year in GR. Rushing him would not be smart for his development.

How about you getting a prospect or two in return instead?

We have McIsaac on LD with one year of waiver exemption left but he's being overtaken by younger kids in the depth chart. There's Albin Grewe in Sweden who had a bad season early with not getting icetime in Finland but is now getting back on track, an energy guy with a playing style well suited for North American ice.

McIsaac is the first one to lose his waiver exemtion and should be the first one out. Viro still has three years to go before a decision needs to be made.

They were literally over the 10% offseason buffer and still got a 3td for Schmidt

Schmidt was also notably younger at the time and hadn't just missed most of a season.
