Sabres would block your number for that one, there are better options available and paying a 1G prospect and a 2nd for an aging RD that will be gone by the time the Sabres are ready to contend would be horrid.

Also “hard to get in Buffalo” is and always has been a dumb argument. Players will go there if they get a fair offer, same as any other city.

I am all for petry but I am not giving up a goalie who set the save percentage record in the ncaa at age 20 for a 35 year old dman

In fairness, there's a large group of Leafs fans that don't like nice things.

Petry is GOATED by MTL AGMs, should be a piece they keep.
He gets better with age (production wont decline as he ages im told), his metrics are off the charts, hes tracking to outperform his contract, should be a for sure keeper player for MTL.

YIKES, I had a waning interest in Petry but even then, this would have been insane. The Sabres have absolutely 0 interest in Petry before looking at this price, after seeing that offer, idk know what the reaction would be, shock, disgusted, laughter, all 3? Thats a hard no from Buffalo

Signed longterm - Not always a good thing, especially when we're talking about UFA's not RFAs
(which is hard to get in Buff) - completely untrue and sometimes a part of the problem itself

I’m glad to hear. I love Nylander, but my Leafs fans family members that live in Toronto seem to severely undervalue him. Others believe he’s dragging down other players.

I'd be interested in knowing who in Leaf land likes Anderson. I'm personally not a fan of him at all. Nylander over Anderson in my opinion any day.

The better options are Klingberg and Letang in UFA. More money for sure, more term likely.

Not sure who's realistically available in trade, but top 4 RHD don't go for cheap. IF they are made available, it's usually at a premium.

Petry can be had at a reasonable price because Montreal is willing to accommodate him. His cap hit and term are not inflated, or really of any consequence in Buffalo. Bringing in a veteran of his caliber will be an investment in the development of the defensemen in the organization.

You can debate whether it's worth moving Levi in such a trade, but there are benefits to the idea.

That's exactly it. Armchair GMs (understandably) always want the shiniest, youngest, better contract Top 4 RD but those are pretty much never dealt unless the team is forced to; player wants out, contract expires, cap crush. Pittsburgh has very little motive to move Marino, same goes for Carolina and Pesce or any of those RDs that are constantly traded for in armchair scenarios.

You realize that Levi could decide not to sign in BUF after his last NCAA season right?

Yeah like... I'm a habs fan and I can see that!

I remember leaf fans trashing him while being the only one playing great in the playoffs against the habs.

Thoughts on Petrys value in his final two years of his contract? he'll only be 37-38 so maybe a return like 2 firsts maybe?

Could, any college player could, but thats still pretty far off so the Sabres arent up against a wall and have no reason to panic and throw him away for a declining, aged, Offensive dman they dont need

Sabres are probably not looking for RD in the offseason, will use Dahlin on the right and take a RD high in the draft

Thats a fallacy because he ain't 38 years old right now. and I'm not asking for 2 first at 34.

I'm asking for a goalie prospect whose right might expire (might not want to sign in BUF or MTL) and a second round pick whose got barely got a 10% chance to be as good as Petry for a top 4 D who is 1 season removed from a 45pts season in a shorten season and whose playing on a cr*p team.

His play is greatly affected by the fact that he is unhappy du to the fact that his wife, 3 kids and 1 unborn child have left MTL to go to the states because of COVID. In 2020-2021 : Petry was worth a ton... now people forget quickly and are selling him for cheap.

I admit that habs fan can be overzealous sometimes in evaluating player - but that's what AGM are for : discussion - not being condescending with some copy pasta.

I'm thinking BUF 2022 2nd, but Petry have a 3M signing bonus due on July 1st, not sure Sabres owners wanna pay that. Then it would have to be 2023 2nd.

Buffalo's GM said he wanted to add RD vet this summer to play with Dahlin and Power.

Don't make me tap the "it makes the most sense for TML to just buy out Mrazek" sign again.

Also, Buffalo should not be trading for soon-to-be-35 year old defensemen with term left on their deals. Petry isn't a bum, but adding a veteran RHD with playoff experience at the expense of picks and prospects is a terrible use of their assets for Buffalo. Levi is a few years away from having to worry if he signs or not, so that's irrelevant for this trade; adding a 2nd in next year's draft is just overkill at that point. And all of that is before you get to the fact that Petry has a 15 team NTC and I'd be shocked if Buffalo wasn't on that list. If the Sabres want a veteran RHD to pair with Power next season, they can re-sign Colin Miller or Mark Pysyk, or go out and get one of the older UFAs like Justin Braun, Anton Stralman, or one of the other half-dozen or so guys that are in their early/mid-30s that typically sign right before training camp.

The reality with Petry is that we don't want to trade him... we are doing it to accommodate a human bieng, a father and husband... The guys is having a rough time being away. So I think its unlikely that he would add additional obstacle to his own trade.
