Couture part two

Created by: mac11_716
Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 12, 2022
Published: Apr. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I threw out a trade for Couture in my last ACGM post and was surprised how it wasn't ripped to shreds. Some Sabres fans liked it and thought I gave up too much, and some Sharks fans liked the return. Going to try to find the happy medium between the two.

My original thought is a veteran leader (current SJ captain), playoff experience, can play wing or center, and we can afford him while all the kids are on entry-level or bridge deals. He grew up less than an hour from Buffalo and is a massive Bills fan.

A few other moves added in too.

Well you should be ripped for that Couture trade. A fading player 8m X 5 contract. A lot better ways to spend 40m and keep your picks. I doubt if Couture waives anyway. He's retired in California with those other high capped, long term Sharks.

Either drop the pick going with Logan or make that 3rd a 2nd.

Couture has not shown any signs of declining, of course he will but he has not yet.

Make it Buffalo’s 1st and not Florida’s and sure. Sharks aren’t going to just give away their captain. Despite all the crap Couture gets his numbers are still good

Really? 105th in scoring and 40th in pay. He's putting up on Zack Hyman numbers. You really think the Sabres can't spend 8m better without giving away any young assets?

Also considering he does literally everything. Top PP unit, Top PK unit and does it all well. Not to mention his playoff numbers are outstanding.

33 year old declining players will never get a top 10 pick unless the pick was traded far before they knew it was top 10

He is just saying it's going to take an overpayment as Cooch is our captain and not even on the block. The only thing declining is his age, his game is still strong. People throw the word "declining" around on here without knowing actual concrete facts lol.

I agree it’s and over pay and probably not ideal for a rebuilding team but in his numbers his line mates this year have been depth players and AHL guys he’s our 2nd line center and playing with guys who wouldn’t make the team on any playoff caliber roster. give him 2 legit top 6 wingers and he would be 30G 65p.

Scoring at a .70 ppg with no consistent linemates all season, most being fringe 3rd/4th line/ahl players. 101 points in 116 playoff games. Plays all situations very well. Certainly hasn’t declined.

Hes worth slightly more than Olofsson would be, most people are moving Olofsson for a 3rd or 2nd

Where's that one buffalo guy who said SJ would have to pay 2 1sts for Buffalo to take Couture?

Anyway, Couture wouldn't get that much, honestly Couture for any 1st should be an acceptable trade for SJ. But I don't see anyway SJ is trading him anytime soon unless something seriously changes.

You think teams are paying a premium for what Couture did, for the Sharks, 4+ years ago?
Olofsson: 65gp 18G 23A 41P PPG: .64 27 Y/o
Couture: 67gp 23G 26A 49P PPG: .73 33 Y/o
Couture isnt going to bring in a haul. Olofsson is undervalued and should get more than a 2nd or a 3rd, and Couture should get slightly more than that, which is a little more than whats offered here, maybe Vegas's first instead of Florida

If Couture did go anywhere I think it would be Buffalo. Giving up their Captain would be a bad look for the Sharks.

How is Olof's 3 zone play? Couture pretty much has to shutdown the opposing top line every night.

Olofsson is Swedish, he has to be good in all 3 zones

We have a Swede who isn't good in all 3 zones on the Sharks already. Trust me, he doesn't half to be.

Yeah, he put up these numbers with far inferior linemates. He’s also a great all around player who plays all situations of the game. Olofson is known to be a scorer and that’s it.

Olofsson is with Mittelstadt and Asplund, so linemates arent an excuse. Olofsson is also a winger, so he should be scoring

100+ points in the playoffs = 0 value, and yes he plays on the top PP
