Can someone point me to where in the CBA it says that players signed post the trade deadline are ineligible to play in the playoffs for that year?

I've never heard of that before

Lots of college players have signed after the TDL and play in the NHL playoffs that same year: Makar, McAvoy, etc

Yes, exactly. I think the difference with Meyers is that he was never drafted. All the reports I've seen say that he is not eligible to play for the Avs in the post-season.

I remember seeing a twitter comment about this, and from what I recall, the rule is in another document, not the CBA, and it's that any player added to a team's reserve list after the deadline is ineligible to play for the team in that season. I'll see if I can find it

Yea youre right, I found it in the althletic's article: https://theathletic.com/news/avalanche-ben-meyers-signing/7ro76jo1zyoi/

"He is ineligible to play in the playoffs because he was not rostered at the trade deadline and will burn the first year of his contract by playing in the regular season."

I agree that he's most likely bottom six, but it's still a nice snag for Colorado. He will likely be a good bottom six player that can chip in some offense here and there.

If Meyers can develop into just a steady two way 3rd liner this is still a huge W

If they are signing after deadline they are ineligible. They have to be signed or reserves by deadline to be included in playoff roster.

They were all on reserve list. Meyers was free agent. Anyone whose rights are owned by team can play in playoffs.

Found it. The rule is in the NHL by-laws https://twitter.com/MtlfanSakic/status/1506405558055841792?t=IWVwwnBvB09DHChffbB31g&s=19

That's most college UDFA's, they get a lot of hype and bidding wars but if they weren't drafted previously, odds are they become at best a depth/bottom of the lineup guy

So since Ben Meyers was not on anyone's reserve list because he was a UFA, does that then mean he can play? The by-law would not apply to him?

Hmm, good point. I'm guessing the answer must be no because various sources have said he can't play (at least in the postseason), but I'm not 100% sure.
