Just put EJ's 6m into Mack's extention and call it a day. I can see him taking a 3 year 9-10m deal and get a monster deal when the cap raises dramatically.

They don’t make a lot of money for the physical toll they put on their body. All the more reason to win this year and then cash in.

By that standard road workers, builders, movers, etc should be earning millions too.

I think he'll get $100M or more on an 8 year deal. He's not going to sign another underpriced deal, it's not his responsibility to create a cap compliant Cup contender. He's going to get paid.

The next deal starts in the 23-24 season, when the cap will be at least $83.5M. About 2 years into the 8-year contract, once the players have paid back the escrow, the salary cap is expected to start rising significantly. There's no way MacKinnon want's to be playing the second half of his last long-term contract making sub-$10M in a league that has a $100M cap. If you think that's realistic, then you don't know MacKinnon - he has probably the biggest ego of any hockey player around.
