Description
How quickly we Avs fans forget what it's like to not have a 2C. Maybe Newhook gets there in a year or two (I personally think it's likely he does), but Kadri needs to stay for now. It takes some shuffling, but it's doable.

With respect to Kadri, I used the handy dandy income tax calculator tool located here: (https://www.capfriendly.com/income-tax-calculator) and found that a $7M AAV for Kadri in Denver results in a nearly identical annual take-home pay as the Hertl contract. I shortened the deal by three years since Kadri is three years older than Hertl, and sliced off just a hair from the AAV. This seems reasonable for both sides if they decide to work something out. I had some success with this approach for the Rantanen deal (using Marner as the comp), so I figured why not do it again. A huge key would be trade protection. I'm going to say that three years of a full NMC and then a MNTC for the last two should work for both sides. And then of course there is payment structure, which I would hope the Avs organization simply caves on. It's not time to be nickle and diming on signing bonuses and whatnot. Not for such an important player/position.

The Kravtsov trade probably won't happen, in which case Aube-Kubel slots into that spot. I think it's an interesting thought though, so I threw it in. Same with Timmins, but I'm bitter about the Avs trading three RHD in the last calendar year so I'm going for it. There are obviously other options for bottom pairing in free agency.

Finally, Burakovsky is the cap casualty for next year. If they can put a one-year band-aid over that loss with a guy like Stastny or maybe Radulov, I think it would be a good idea. I chose Stastny for familiarity and because it feels to me like his time in Winnipeg may have run it's course.

Not sure why, but it won't let me retain on MacDonald. No matter what I put, it says retention is greater than 50%. Thus, I put him in additional details.

I'm sure Drury would be open to a Krastov trade, but those players don't help the Rangers at all. Maybe higher draft pick would work.

i think kadri goes to ufa. unlike other player, kadri never got a bit money deal so i would not be surprised if he tries to cash in now.

Really? I thought that they would be a good fit with the Rangers. I'm assuming that Vatrano and one of Strome or Copp move on for cap reasons, which opens up a spot at wing (Kaut can play either side). With MacDonald, he's not a huge victory, but he can play D or wing and would come cheap. Thought that might be of interest, especially with cap being tight.

Obviously I could be off, but that's my logic.

I agree that he'll at least see what's out there. He won't take much of a discount (if any) to stay in Colorado. I feel like I have what would be a reasonably competitive offer here though.

I am assuming Drury signs Vatrano since he is a good fit with Mika and Kreider and one of either Copp or Strome to center Panarin and Kakko. So top 6 looks set and they already have plenty of bottom 6 forwards, and young defenseman. Drury would probably want a good prospect or at least a 2nd round pick.

Im 100% on board with Newhook not being ready for full time 2C role.

Im okay with Kadri signing, but i think 5yr x 6mil is my absolute ceiling, if he doesnt take it, you immediately call Trocheck and if that doesnt work, call Strome. If COL misses on all 3 of those guys, id be willing to revisit the idea of Newhook as 2C and spend the 5mil on a RW like Rust, Perron, Rackell, Reilly Smith etc.

No thanks on the ARI trade, at this point its clear Timmins cant catch a break staying healthy and a player like Ranta would be of more value moving forward.

No thanks on the Stastny signing he'll be 37yo mid season and the decline is unavoidable.

Im also not ready to give up on Kaut until i see him play 20 more NHL games.

Apparently the plan with Drury is Kravs will stay in Russia till training camp and it sounds like he is wearing the NYR sweater next season.

I'm pretty confident that Kaut isn't in the team's plan. If they can get a different cost-controlled player with upside in exchange for him, I'm all for it.

I had Ranta penciled in before the team traded for Lehkonen and signed Meyers. Now I don't see where he fits. I'm okay with keeping him, but I think he's a lot more expendable now than he was a month ago.

For Stastny, it's a one-year deal that uses up the remaining cap space. Not much to dislike there imo. He is still playing well enough to justify that one-year contract. Better than going after a tdl acquisition, especially considering the lack of picks and prospects.

I do hear you on Kadri. Every year it looks like there will be plenty of ufas, and every year they dry up pretty quickly, as they re-sign before even hitting the market. I think the team should sign Naz, even at a number they don't love. 2C is too important to eff around with. Obviously there is a ceiling, but mine is higher than yours.

I will be very surprised if Drury does not trade him at the draft. I can't see him giving him a 3rd chance.

Well Drury would be giving him a 2nd chance. Anything that happens before him isn’t going to be considered by Drury. It sounded a lot like he is coming to NY for training camp early this summer and isn’t bringing him now because we are deep enough as it is. Sounds like they aren’t wasting Kravs time and have commitments to him for next season. Time will tell. Signing a 2 year 875k deal seems like what will happen. But if a better opportunity rises I’m sure he will trade him for it

Timmins boat has sailed wish the kid nothing but the best and lots of health, but if Kadri were indeed re-signed Compher becomes significantly more expandable as a way of freeing up space which I would assume would be used to retain existing guys.

Drury was in Ranger management the first time he bolted on the team, and supposedly was not very happy about that at the time, so I think Drury would consider it a 3rd chance with the organization. But who knows, maybe Kravstov has matured enough in his conversations with Drury to get a 3rd shot. But I cannot see Drury guaranteeing Kravstov a spot on the team, so he would have to be willing to go to Hartford if asked to, which is what has been the problem in the past. If he will be a grown up about it, maybe he will get another shot.

Ya all I know is Drury/Kravs camp have come to some form of agreement about staying there and coming over early for training camp. All other details aren’t really important right now so we may as well wait and see what is to come of it all.
