Leafs pass - don’t need a sweetener to move Muzzin (certainly not a 1st to move back half a round) and he’s likely in their lineup next year. He’s been injury riddle this year, wouldn’t call it a regression until it’s more than 1 season. If they wouldn’t move their 1st for a rental, their not moving it for anything short of an impactful player

Leafs decline. Muzzin has just had a down year however, he will be a part of the lineup for at least the next 2 years

The pick isnt for the player, its for the cap space

I wouldn't be so sure on that. It's unlikely but it's not impossible. If Sandin surpasses him, then moving Muzzin would make sense.

    That's not 100%.

They literally had to spend assets for Muzzin insurance this year.

If he can't handle top 4 minutes, they can't keep him around at that salary.

The difference between pick 24 and pick 40 isn't that substantial.

I say all of this as a big Muzzin fan.

Leafs aren't trading a first, easy decline, and Sabres have no leverage in a trade

They don’t need the cap space that way. Kerfoot is likely moved, Mrazek can be moved or bought out.. there’s enough cap space to make moves.

This is just an uninformed fan trying to take advantage of a team for no reason

Sabres have no leverage in a trade for players, Buffalo is a market that players do not want to go to. If anything, Leafs would be asking for 2nd and a prospect or a first for Muzzin

Leafs were not paying a first for a rental at the trade deadline, there is no way they are trading a first in this trade

Also, if they're talking to Gio after the season and get the feeling they can sign him for $2M or less, then they have consider moving Muzzin.

Considering Muzzin is 33yo and has been hurt 5+ times in the last 3 seasons, including two concussions this year, Muzzin's value has never been lower.

At this rate, he could be in Seabrook territory soon.

People get too worked up about 1sts. 24th (or later) to 40ish, isn't that big of a difference.

Leafs haven't had a first round pick in over three seasons, Leafs need to start drafting quality players who have value. Other than Knies, no team was calling for any of the Leafs prospects at the trade deadline

Love when people spit out stuff like this like they actually know anything.

    It's comical.

You're swapping your second for a Leafs first, Leafs easily decline

Thats a fair opinion, but the leafs arent spending a 1st, thats a completely different connotation. Theyre moving back 16 spots to save 4 mill and get a young dman who doesnt have a history of concussions

Muzzin is not a cap dump, if teams are calling for Jeff Petry, there will be teams calling for Jake Muzzin. You will be paying for Muzzin if you want him, not the other way around, and the Sabres will be desperate to find players wanting to join a market in Buffalo

No the Sabres wont be desperate, the culture in Buffalo is significantly better without Eichel, nor do they need much to start. I also really dont want Muzzin that much, that why hes on the 3rd pair.

We will see, but the Sabres are a few years away from moving up in the standings, especially how deep the Atlantic division is. The environment is a bit better in Buffalo, but I still don't see it as a market that impactful players will want to play in
