Red Wings accept. But you guys don't want Erne. Engvall is better.

Not nearly enough for Garland. No reason to do that

Keep him, the Leafs would much rather have more production for 1.5 million less. Garland is overpaid

I mean, I don't love Erne either, but I'd only accept that trade to reduce cap if that was the goal, Engvall is definitely a step down from Erne...

What does Arizona think of you using their potential draft pick for trading purposes?

I'd definitely take Engvall over Erne. He's had a good season. 13 goals 17 assists 30 points and he's a pain in the ass to play against. He pisses his opponents off and he's a very good penalty killer. Erne is useless. 6 goals. Yippee.

In what possible way is Erne better than Engvall? It's the hardest of passes for TO on that.

All of these trades are wasteful for TO. Adding cap space for lateral moves that add cap.

It's likely not as much as you can get for those guys but I also don't like it for TO. Too much cap for people we don't need.

That's a fair argument, but I also think some of it is situational. I don't care for Engvall's game and honestly, I'd rather Detroit had neither Erne or Engvall on the roster, but I guess if I had to pick one or the other, I concede that Engvall is probably the better option.

I don't see this trade happening anyway. Red Wings need to focus on promoting their own young players like Berggren and Soderblom. We have enough bottom 6 players. If we're trading for a player he needs to be a top 6 guy.

If we can't acquire one then it's better to stick with what we have and continue drafting and developing. This Red Wings team will look much different in 2 years.

did OP edit the trade? because right now I just see Bellows & Duszak both being sub-$1M guys, and see Mayfield($1.45M) coming in to replace Holl ($2M). Toronto actually cuts cap with this trade as it's showing right now.

Situational? Engvall is used generally in a more defensive aspect because he's great defensively. More often than not, nothing happens with Engvall on the ice. He gives up very little but also doesn't produce a tonne of offence. Still 30 points and great defensive play makes him incredibly more valuable than Erne

Doesn't Bellows have a contract that starts next year in the 4+ range?

nope, he's RFA with nothing signed yet. I'd be surprised if he signs for more than a $1M AAV this offseason - he's put up 4-10-14 in 37 GP for the Isles this year.

Right, I was thinking of Beauvillier. In that case I just wouldn't make this trade at all. Give up a 1st for small upgrade on defence doesn't seem worthwhile. I don't see Mayfield as a good fit in the possession system Keefe employs in TO, his puck skills are lacking for what is needed.

Wait if you force those two to Retire
What sane UFA will ever sign with TML again logically?

I mean thats why TML paid to move Marleau
Because they did Jumbo Joe was willing to sign among others
Would those same players have made that more if you did this to Marleau even at his age?

I mean Muzzin you can maybe Justify as a Mercy
But Simmons will be pissed 100% as he just needs to go to a team that uses him as more then a Goon
People forget he created a lot of offense off his shots and to teams having trouble creating shots he'd be a value
Seattle for example is building on Youth but they've takent the Quality vs Quantity approaches and said "Why not both"
So they will have a lot more players who are great players but maybe not pure shooters where Simmons can step in while alos playing Protector scaring off the Tom Wilsons

He's actually make sense for MTL if we actually win the Lotto and get Wright
Someone to mix it up but hopefully like Markus Foligno can find balance as a mentor and see offensive output bursts
