Gibson is really hard to judge. I legit thought he was the second best goalie in the league around 2020 new years. But the 2 seasons of hockey since then have not been good...

when Anaheim was rolling pre all star break Gibson was rolling at a 2.49 GAA and a .992 Sv% so I don't know exactly how to value him either, but I don't think he is going to be traded either unless it is one of those offers that you don't turn down

It’s not hard to judge: anaheim has no reason to trade him.

Don't suspect they trade him, unless they draft pick up a "next guy", then they could consider it, as he's still in peak age, but nearing end, and if can get a haul would be nice to reset with a younger guy as they build their next core

But more importnatly I was more just trying to judge him as a goalie/trade value in isolation and its...hard.

Right? I really don't know what to make of him. When he started rolling again in roughly November and December I thought he just rebounded as the team finally rebounded. Then he cooled off hard post all star break, and well... I just don't know. I'm sure you watch way more of him than I do as a ducks fan and me being in the Eastern time zone.

My reasoning for this is in a scenario where maybe Anaheim struggles out of the gate and Gibson doesn't believe Anaheim is close to contending. I don't necessarily believe he will get traded, and although I think he's an excellent goalie, his stats on a struggling team may have dipped his value a bit. Sure Lindholm and Manson were pending UFA's when they got dealt, and Gibson has term, but you never know, he could end up getting traded.

I honestly think this is an overpay for Gibson. He hasn't posted a save percentage above 905 since 2019 and he's making 6.4M against the cap until 2027. His contract is horrible, if he regains form then he lives up to it but that's not very likely, even if he's mediocre then he's extremely overpaid for a goalie, and if he stays like he is (or gets worse) this contract is abysmal and probably a future massive buyout. I know I'm in the minority opinion though lol.

While I definitely think they need to move on from Samsonov, I wouldn't pay a promising prospect like Iorio to do so, and especially not a first in such a promising draft class when the Caps are in a decline.

I also really dislike the Leason trade. Even if he doesn't make the team, he's waiver exempt, and he shows a lot of promise in the middle six.
