Possible rookie pieces. My guess is NJD are looking for roster players though, so which position do they need one for the most? The most easily replaceable one for FLA would probably be Montour even though I really like him.

The only pieces on the Florida roster I can see Siegs really being moved for are Knight and Lundell, possibly Weegar and Verhaeghe as well.
I know those are big names but I don't see Devils have any interest in any of Florida's prospects yet to make the NHL nor in trading Siegenthaler for something like a late 1st + an A/B level prospect.
It's a moot point anyways, Siegenthaler is part of New Jersey's long-term core by now. He's not getting traded.
Ryan Graves could be available if Florida needs another LHD.

Maybe one of these for Siegenthaler

1. McKenzie Weegar
2. Spencer Knight
3. (We’ll just keep him)
4. A package of stuff

Yeah as other comments here have indicated we’d need goaltending coming back so probably Knight for Siegs and Blackwood or something, which is probably untenable

This guy isn’t makar. A 2nd round pick and a lower prospect or late pick would suffice. But I get you not wanting to trade him

I suspect you guys haven't really watched him this year.
Dude's developed into one of the leagues elite defensive defensemen.
Sieg's got the highest defensive xGAR in the league I believe.
Couple that with his age and fantastic cap hit a team like Florida would have to pay through the nose to acquire him, especially from a developing team like New Jersey.

devils fan will want the moon for him. if they are smart they trade himm soon (since they have a lot of ld prospect coming in). sieg is having a awesome season advance stats wise but i see him fall big time next year like that type of defenseman do. something built around samoskevich + would probbaly work. he is that kind of guy who is probably more valued on this site than actual GM would.

i agree he is not a cheap player to acquire, but the true cost of him is probably not close to what people are saying on this site (kignt, weegar, etc).

i only see 3 or 4 as reasonable options. i tried to look the last time a player his age with his point total and ice time was traded for a primed piece and could not find anything close. i know these stats dont tell the full story but i thinks they are very good exemples nonetheless. maybe i missed it but until he establish himself for a longer period of time, i dont see that type of return.

When Siegenthaler was a 7D on the Capitals, he got traded for an early 3rd round pick. Since then, he’s established himself as one of the best defensive defensemen in the league. He’s worth more than a late 2nd and a prospect.
Devils wouldn’t be interested in any of the Panthers mid level prospect or picks. They would be interested in guys like Knights, Lundell, etc. (Not saying the Panthers would give up those players).

Totally fair. He has been here only a year. So not a long track record, but NJ has no need to move him.

In 2021-22, he lead the NHL in a number of defensive categories. Was 1st in defensive GAR and expected GAR. Was top-10 in relative even strength expect goals against (and shots against), and led the league in defensive zone denials.

NJD have a lot of offensive-dmen in their system with Hamilton, Smith, Hughes all figuring to be staples going forward. Siegenthaler and Severson are our best defensive options.

yeah i think it makes sense to keep him for now for NJ cause i dont think they would be satisfied with the return he would get. and you know, hes been pretty good in jersey so keeping him makes sense, its a team that wants to be competitive sooner than later, why trade players that works well in their system?

Not at all a joke. Siegenthaler was legitimately one of the best defensive d-men in NHL this year on a $1.1 million contract. Lead the entire NHL in defensive GAR. No prospect+pick package would be enough to pry him from Devils.

Exactly. When thinking about the core we are building around, he is likely part of it.

F: Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Sharangovich, Mercer, Holtz
D: Severson, Hamilton, Siegenthaler, Hughes, Smith
G: ???

The feeling amongst most Devils fans is he will be as important to NJD as Slavin is to CAR.
