Description
Let’s start by saying I know this will never happen. ROR is the captain and a selke contender year in and year out. He also can still generate offense and we’d be foolish to let him go. However, there’s no way we can resign all 5 of our top 6 forwards who have expiring contracts at the end of next season. I haven’t seen anyone do this and was messing around with some other options. Our offense is stacked. Our defense needs work. Our future cap situation is what needs the most work. Army likes to stay competitive and avoid rebuilds. This adds to our young depth and allows us stay competitive longer, even tho this team might be a little worse than our team this year. I think if this were to happen, you would then look to move someone like Saad the following year and let some of those prospects come in. We would also build our draft capital right before a draft class that’s being compared to 2015 and 2003. Not sure the islanders would want ROR for that price but he fits their defensive mindset while also helping them in their top 6 giving Len a legit 1/2 C. This would become the biggest concern for the blues would be C depth. That’s why I went and got Morgan frost. He’s young and may need a shake up, just like kostin. Think this gives both players a different opportunity and it could be worth it. If we needed to add a let pick to make it work I would do that. I think Barby for Peterson is close to even. Barby has been great and would be a cheap top 6 option who they could pair with Geno for one last run. They also have a glutton of LD so they would be willing to let go of Peterson as they utilize him like a 4/5 D. I think he could complement parayko nicely to serve as our shut down pair. If we needed to add a late pick I would. Getting rid of scandellas cap makes sense. I don’t care who we trade him too but I think he’d cost about a 4th to get rid of. He can still play decent hockey at times, he’s just getting paid more than he should. As far as goalie goes, there is still cap so we could go for husso but I think he’ll cost a lot. If we want to be a competitive team, we need Binner to play like a 6M goalie. I think we need to hope he can do that and get him a back up, not pay for another starter. With the additions of beauvilleir, this top 9 is still fantastic. Maybe not the best offensive team the blues have ever had like this year but the defense would also be improved so you’d think it would even out. I know everybody in the world is gonna hate this but let me know what you think!

    Additional Details:
Just a place holder. I think army could find someone to take this deal. Scandella is definitely a negative value for his contract but there are worse players in the NHL. He’d be an okay placeholder for teams who need a year or two before prospects are ready.

Come on you’re essentially getting the Eichel package for a 31 year old UFA O’Reilly, this would be absolutely crazy for Isles to do. Beauvillier’s been having a down year but before that he’s been a high end 2nd liner. Aatu Räty was as equally dominant as Anton Lundell was in his last year in Finland (on a worse team). Then Bolduc who’s a fine prospect with good tools to become an NHLer. Also a 2023 1st lol! And you say no to that lmao.

I never said I’d say no to this if this is offered I’d take
But anything less than this isn’t worth it to us

I think return is a little heavy, but I can understand wanting a big return for your captain. Islanders are just a terrible fit because they're actually very deep at center to begin with, and bringing ROR on just pushes one of Mat Barzal or Brock Nelson off center to the wing. If they're moving Beauvillier (which I think is a bad idea, but that's a different post), they should be looking to upgrade at the wing or LD, not adding to an already strong position group.

FS i agree yea I wouldn't think ROR gets this this year but hes our captain and the 2nd best two way center in the league rn (kopi 1, Bergy 3)
The isles should go for Soucy imo hes be a decently cheap option

I'd take Barbashev over a 3rd for Petterson.
