Habs have no reason to pay a top 35 pick to dump one of their top 6 wingers.

Montreal isn't going to do that, they aren't Philly. That Edmonton trade is also ridiculous.

Oilers trade is terrible. Despite what people on this site may think, Barrie has value. We have seen season after season of teams overpaying for skilled right shot offensive-defenders. Im not saying hes worth a lot but he could 100% fetch a couple mid-round picks.

Kassian on the other hand is likely a dump since hes lost his edge since signing the new contract, but he isnt that big of a dump that a 1st and savoie would be what it takes to get rid of him.

People are dumping Monahan and/or Lucic, you could get tons of value there.

I'm just throwing this out there, and I could be wrong, but after a down offensive year in Toronto, the best deal Barrie could get was 1 years @ $3.75 mil. Then, after his BEST year offensively, the best deal he could get was 3 x $4.5.

Again, I could be completely off base with that, and maybe, for whatever reason, he just really loves freezing his balls off in Edmonton, but there hasn't appeared to be a lineup for him at any point over the past few years, so I would (extremely politely) disagree with the above statement.

Barrie definitely has value. He might not be Norris caliber but he is a far ways away from a cap dump. He's very useful puck moving defenseman and his cap hit is reasonable.

I think he probably has approximatly 0 value.

Well that’s the thing though, isn’t it? Again, im not going to outright say “he’s a dump”, because maybe he isn’t, but do you not find it weird that the past two oilers contracts were the best he could get? It’s as if GM’s suddenly realized that a defenceman’s best attribute should be playing defence!

Again, I’ve got no horse in the race here, and maybe I’m wrong, but I certainly wouldn’t be offering up any sort of asset to the Oilers for him.

I don't think it's the only contract he could get. I think he liked the fit on the team and didn't want to move around again. There would be a few teams around the league that would trade for him.
