Doubt he retires and leaves that money on the table and also Campbell won't take under 4M to be a staring goalie when he can likely get 4-4.5M minimum on the market.

Leafs fans are getting kinda "delusional" that they can get Muzzin to retire, so they can make a "cap friendly" Leaf roster.

Every fan base does it! We can only hope certain players will retire and get off the books but in reality none of them will do that and leave the remaining contract money on the table and they could just go on LTIR like Kesler , hasn't played since 18-19 but still getting paid.

Muzzin isn't even bad, man the people on this site are manic. If Matthews misses another game he's going to be in retirement danger next.

I don’t imagine him full scale retiring just going into LTIR for the rest of his career (even that is unlikely but man he’s had a lot of injuries recently). Also I’d imagine Campbell taking a discount to come back and I can’t really imagine there being a huge market for him so I feel like this is a fair price. When he’s hot he’s awesome but don’t forget he has a negative GSAx on the year and a very average save percentage. I don’t think he’s quite worth starter money.

I’m not sure if you follow the leafs but Muzzin has missed playoff games in back to back years, he’s had two concussions this year and he has something else now. He’s 33 and he’s played a ton of hockey already and he’s won a cup and gold medal before he’s basically achieved everything he could want in his career. Also he has been terrible this year, again, you probably aren’t watching the leafs this year but everyone who is can tell you he hasn’t looked good

There won't be a huge market for him for sure but I don't think he's going to take the same amount of money as the backup goalie to be honest, if he's staying to be the starter he's probably going to want more money than the back up is making! But who knows? Contracts and terms are so all over the place these days it's so hard to predict anymore lol. Yeah if anything Muzzin will just end up sitting on LTIR if he can't play anymore.

I watch them all the time and yes he has been hurt a couple of times. However, he's looked good since he's been back from his 2nd concussion and with it late in the season they are managing him. I guarantee he'll be playing when it counts and will be integral in our post season. He definitely won't be playing with Holl anymore though, that pairing just doesn't work anymore. Looks really good with Brodie though.

I honestly don't know if he fits right now.
All pairing s look good right now and compliment each other. Muzzin whoever he has played with has made them worse. ex. Holl and Brodie.
His Injuries are quite significant this late in his career and he very well could decide life after hockey may be better if he calls it after this year.

This is an extremely hefty return for a guy who has done barely anything in the NHL. I’d rather hold on to all of these pieces easily. Robertson could be just as good next year for less money and fits the team need of a goal scorer better

That's just mob thought. Muzzin and Brodie look very good together. It lets Muzzin focus on his physicality and defensive play while Brodie can handle the puck moving more. Holl and Muzzin don't work anymore because Holl can't do the pick moving well enough. The muzzin demise is as overblown as the JT decline. Both are nonsensical

What?!?
Muzzin's injuries will limit his physicality. His defensive play if you are watching this season have been terrible as well. I never mentioned Holl with Muzzin, as everyone in the world knows they can't be together. Lets Hope Muzzin can play to more of what he was last year with Brodie in the the playoffs as it would be huge for the Leafs if that happens. I also do like Muzzin, his game is juts off this season.
Tavares I never brought up. Although the reason for people complaining about his decline as he's not that 11 Million player. If he was making 6-8 Mill, you would not hear a thing.

I'm not complaining. I literally saying The D looks Greta now right now without Muzzin lol. Read before being such a homer that you can't think.
Also just said people complain about Tavares because he's not an 11 Million dollar player. He's still good, but just not worth his pay'

That's again just media mob thought. JT is an elite hockey player, no question, he makes 11 million because that is what the market dictated prior to the pandemic. Now it seems high but it's not at all a problem. If the Leafs go deep, he'll have nearly a point a game and will be a difference maker. Money well spent. Most of the fools saying the stars are overpaid just don't understand the economics of hockey. They think spending 5 million each on 6 players is better than paying 4 guys 35 million. However, none of the 5 million dollar players can hold a candle to the elite players and a 1 million dollar player can be just as impactful when they find chemistry with the elite players. JT makes guys better, his contract is fine, he can make Kerfoot look good, or Engvall or Mikheyev. That's why he gets paid big.

Well lets look at it this way has 4 players and 35 Mill worked? Has the 11 Mill on a 2nd Line Center worked?
Tampa, Boston and wining teams that make long runs have really good players on good deals.
So I would say 2-3 players on that 11 Mill rather than 1 2nd line Center would probably be more beneficial.
No question on the market Tavares was getting 11 Mil from someone, it's just those signings that end up costing you at times.
I'm a Leaf's fan so hopefully I'm proved wrong.

Tampa won while paying their stars a lot more than the rest.
