HOFFMAN TRADE TO DETROIT WITH CHIAROT AND CAMPBELL SIGNINGS

Created by: nilees24
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2022
Published: Apr. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I could argue that Hoffman is a good fit in Detroit. He averages approx 17 minutes a night (comparable to Fabbri) which is more minutes than the Red WIngs 3rd liners of Vrána/Rasmussen/Zadina. Plus, he contributes on the 1st PP Unit and last time I checked the Red Wings PP is ranked 26th in 2021/22. What happened in MTL can be easily forgotten ... that team was hot garbage.

2022 Off-season UFA departures:
Sam Gagner
Carter Rowney
Taro Hirose
Danny DeKeyser
Daniel Renouf
Ryan Murphy
Brian Lashoff
Thomas Greiss
Calvin Pickard
Magnus Hellberg

Start of 2022/23 Season:
Bertuzzi - Larkin 'C' - Raymond
Fabbri - Suter - Hoffman
Vrána - Rasmussen - Zadina
Ernie - Poehling - Sundqvist
(G. Smith) (Stephens)

Chiarot 'A' - Seider
Staal 'A' - Hronek
Oesterle - Lindström
(Walman)

Campbell - Nedeljkovic

Agree that maybe the Wings takes Hoffman...but they aren't giving up anything to take him. What's with that Chariot contract? Campbell might be a nice fit, but 5m X 4 years is more realistic.

Detroit isn't going to trade away a 22 year old for a 32 year old.

Wow, you are completely neglecting the fact that Detroit has good wingers in it's system and Vrana and possibly Zadina will develop into top six players and are really top six players just playing in the middle six. Hoffman and these other contracts also put Detroit in Cap trouble really early and neglect the fact that Veleno and Poehling are not even prospects with the edge going to Detroit and Detroit really shouldn't be giving up anything for Hoffman.

All fair points. Fun exercise .... What are the top 5 Free Agent Defensemen this off-season? Plus, give me their salaries this offseason. For me its Letang, Klingberg, and Chiarot in the top 5. What are your top 5 Dmens contracts this offseason. The market should drive their prices up cause to be fair there's not D men candidates to get paydays. As for Campbell, hes from Michigan and grew up a Red Wings fan. you could argue a mutli year deal would work for Detroits budget but a 1 year prove it deal as 1A vs Nedeljkovic could produce better results.

You have to resign Larkin and Bertuzzi next year which will actually probably put you into cap trouble right there cause Larkin will cost A LOT and Bertuzzi will cost a lot, you will have to pay Vrana and Raymond in the same year which will cost a lot along with Seider who will be asking for a lot. Then you will eventually have to pay Edvinsson and other good prospects, so, yeah, there will be a lot of cap trouble.

Also the fact that you gave Marc Staal 4M makes me think this is a joke.

Not exactly, they are different players with a lot more upside in Veleno considering he had the skill to be given exceptional status. Also a lot of people will probably look at Poehling as the amount needed to move the Hoffman contract.

haha its a one year deal and the D market is bone dry this offseason. He has intangibles in the dressing room for sure. Plus this Red Wings could use some veterans to inspire the young players. This team is too young tbh and will never make the playoffs cause they're too young.

Veleno is worth more than both those players together. Don't want or need Hoffman unless they are paying a significant amount to dump the two years left in his deal. I would expect it cost one of either Florida or Calgary's first round picks they have or two seconds.

Your roster is an unmitigated disaster. You have no clue how Yzerman operates. He drafts, develops and goes with stop gap players until his kids are ready. Building his team in stages.

You're taking the Kenny Holland quick fix approach. Running your team into the ground. There will be no fast tracking here. It doesn't work. You're obviously a Red Wings hater. Stop embarrassing yourself.

A 35 year old Marc Staal is going to double his salary? Child please. Ben Chiarot making almost 7 mil? Jack Campbell for 5.5 mil? We already have a starting goalie in Nedeljkovic. We're buying time for Cossa who'll start in Grand Rapids next season. You don't even have Berggren on the team. Vrana on the third line? Give it up, troll.

What do you mean "bone dry"?

PIT is forced to trade either Pettersson or Matheson cheap. WPG is desperate to get rid of Schmidt cheap. VGK wants to offload Martinez. STL is willing to pay to get rid of Scandella.

The market is absolutely smock full with LD this offseason and they're dirt cheap, none of the above players will cost us more than a 3rd round pick.

Detroit passes, Not trading Veleno and a 4th round pick for either Hoffman or Poehling. And that Ben Chiarot signing is laugh Chiarot isn't a top 4 LD nor is he worth that kind of money. And Jack Campbell isn't signing with his hometown team for only 1 year he's going to want term.
