Well youve got a team under cap, but again trading picks when the team is already fairly bare for the future?

Also, I dont know if Nolan Patrick fetches a 5th at this point

I think Karlsson probably should be dealt as well and find a cheaper 3C .. also give Hague another mil at least

Not an unreasonable ask, but maybe unrealistic, considering what was agreed upon at the trade deadline.

Habs have no reason to take Dadonov honestly, but Weber is one of the only big LTIR contracts left

As a Hawks fan, I'd take the gamble. Our C depth is really bad and might get worse if we're really not keeping Strome

Maybe but 16 pts, a -29 in 77 games in the last THREE seasons, and only healthy for 25 games this year (hes already sat out an entire season) isn;t about his 1.2mil salary, its about the whether he will/won;t play on a day to day basis. And its not little injuries here and there, its the same LTIR head (migraine/concussion) injuries.

Excuse the poor pun, but even at a 5th rounder, I'm not sure you;d want the headache of a player who not only is afraid to get hit, but cant afford to be hit

I've been mapping it out just now; I definitely think we could but it would involve trading or buying out Josh Bailey and playing a cheap vet or ELC in the top-9 consistently. That said, the former is pretty unlikely, so you might be right in the end. I think there are better, cheaper options than Martinez anyways

I’m sure someone would bet on him and offer a 2nd/3rd

<a href=wld-bill.png">

He has 5 more years left at 5.9 cap hit. Plus that 10-team no trade list (would think all the teams that are **** and have the cap space are on that list)

Your not wrong in that he SHOULD be moved, I just don't see a team taking that on.

Ultimately, and maybe Vegas fans will disagree but:

the Eichel trade continues to give and give and give....

I dont think most thought beyond the immediate trade cost of Krebs, picks and Tuch, but the fact was that VGS did not and will not have the cap space. So the actual trade cost is Krebs, picks, Tuch, sitting Smith or Dandanov AND the inability to resign any of the UFAs and struggle to sign the RFAs. The trade cost them pretty much all their depth and has put them in a corner with an aging NTC forward corps.

It wasnt that long ago that fans were amazed that VGS was able to crow bar in Pietrangelo, but the mgmt continued to move prospects and picks to compete now and "now" seems to be over already.

All the big contract forwards have NMC/NTC which makes things difficult, but I would expect that VGS will have to give up Martinez and another piece for almost nothing. When Kiefer Bellows and Brassard are on your 3rd line, you're in trouble.

I don't think Martinez is a fit. They have a solid top 4 when they resign Dobson, and they have cheaper decent guys like Salo for their bottom pairing.

If someone iz going to give you Assets (when you flip him) WTF wouldn't they just offer VGK future considerations? VGK. would do it saves them assets flip team probably would for same reason

Agreed with everything until the last paragraph, Kieffer Bellows slander isn't tolerated here

I think Salo will be a #7 this season and get some significant playing time when injuries inevitably occur. Then in 23-24, he'll be a regular and probably playing better than his role would suggest, if all goes right. Could be a very valuable development path for us. Based on his performance this season, I'm not sure a full-time role in the NHL next season is where he's at yet. He definitely showed flashes and I think he's gonna be a NHLer, but he's not quite there yet. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we'll get two NHL d-men this offseason and he'll get pushed out, at least for 22-23.

As for the rest of them, 3, 6 and 8 are all excellent, but if we don't get a legit lefthanded 2nd pairing guy to play with Dobson, I really think we're going to struggle. Greene has had his moments, but he's not what he once was and Chara is an unmitigated disaster. Need more stability in such an important spot. I've said before, I think there are better options than Martinez and I think getting our money in order could be a struggle in 23-24 with him on our books. But he's a good player and we could do (and have done) much worse at 2LD since we gave Devon Toews away

And you gave Toews away because of that ridiculous contract you gave Andrew Ladd. I don't think Islanders fans will ever forget that.

You're obviously a fan who has watched more Islanders games, but isn't a Puloch, Pelech, Mayfield, Dobson top 4 good, or is Mayfield more of a RHD?

Either way you can probably find a decent top 4 guy for far cheaper than the AAV of Martinez.
