Hawks aren't taking Wheeler for free. They have no need. Most teams in the league have no need in that giant cap hit.

I don't think Lowry and Kompon survive a coaching purge and Vincent isn't far enough removed from the regime to be a significant enough change.

I think the Jets need to bring someone in to be President of Hockey Operations to shield the new GM from the owner. That said, that costs money so it probably doesn't happen.

Dillon is bad and his contract is worse, you'd have to give the leafs a 1st to take him and they still wouldnt because they dont have the cap

Winnipeg should not do the Carolina or Boston trades.

Chicago and the Islanders don't do those trades.

Isles wouldn’t do scheifele for Barzal 1 for 1, but it was a nice try

It seems like the Jets plan at this point would be to have the bottom 6 as:
    Barron - Lowry - Appleton
    Harkins - Gustafsson - Svechnikov

Putting Perfetti on the 3rd line would a bad place for him and the team.

Dillon doesn't make much sense for the Leafs to pay a big cost to acquire. Leafs have lots of LHD, if they were shopping for one it would be on the right side.

I mean yes, but why would we go shopping for the right side? Brodie lily holl boosh as a 1234 is excellent. Have you so little faith in lily?

A replacement for Holl. Lyubushkin is a free agent so he's no guarantee and Holl has only found success in 1 place this season, playing with Brodie.

Obviously have to start out of order but what is that Islanders trade? We don't need to argue about who's the better player, I just don't think there's any way the Islanders would trade their under-25 star center 1-for-1 for a 29 year old with only 2 years before UFA, much less throw in a pair of 2nds and a wild card prospect. One of the easiest "No"s I've seen on this site.

You can't dump Wheeler like that - regardless of any NMC or M-NTC he currently has, you also have to account for his $8.25M AAV with 2 more years. Chicago is going to ask for something to sweeten that deal. I also think there's something intangible to think about in the locker room when a guy who's the Captain is basically just shipped out for a bag of pucks - the guys (and potential UFAs) in the room are going to see that and keep that in mind when they start thinking about giving hometown discounts or sticking around after the go UFA.

You probably get two 2nds out of Dillon from another team, but Toronto is almost absolutely not that team. They're pretty solid at LD and don't really need a $3.9M LD3. Other teams would be interested at a similar price to what you paid last summer, though (if you really want Bode Wilde and one of the Isles' 2nds, you can have them for Dillon if you really want.)

Schmidt for a 3rd seems very amenable to Detroit fans so I'll leave it as is.

Stanley needs a change of scenery, and maybe LA does it for a guy like Jaret Anderson-Dolan (or MAAAAAYBE Gabe Vilardi, depending if they've given up on him) but they're not doing it for their 2nd round pick from last year that's one of the top 5 prospects in arguable the league's deepest pipeline.

The Carolina trade doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Necas & Bear are both established NHL talents, Lucius is a few years away from even getting out of college. I can't see a team that's currently a strong Cup contender like the Canes moving two young assets like that for futures like this. You might be able to get a deal for Bear (I'll defer to any Canes fans here) but I get the feeling that Necas is a building block for that team.

This might be okay for JDB? I don't know if Boston is going to prioritize futures or current roster players if they move DeBrusk, but that's probably a decent package that doesn't completely sell the farm for Winnipeg while giving Boston a few solid prospects to build up.

The leafs could allow zero goals for a whole season and half the people on here would say they need a big shutdown RD

And still at 2 million if Holl and Brodie can form a reliable pair (they absolutely have, read Justin Bourne's latest article, he's very insightful) why do you need anything? Find someone who works with Rielly and then have Sandin and Liljegren on the bottom pair. Add one more depth guy and you're set. Another player would likely be needed down the stretch but that's a deadline next year problem.

I'm not 100% certain that's actually true (his start was so bad people kind of missed that he has been quietly effective the 2nd half) but id need to check the splits to verify that they werent all with Brodie and i just cant be bothered right now. Regardless that is a 3rd pair d. Maybe I misread but in the context of this convo I got the impression you were looking for more than a 3d which are dime a dozen in the nhl and so not a huge deal

I'd love to see that Scheifele-Barzal trade happen, but the likelihood of that happening is as likely as me getting gifted my own property on Mars.
