Obviously have to start out of order but what is that Islanders trade? We don't need to argue about who's the better player, I just don't think there's any way the Islanders would trade their under-25 star center 1-for-1 for a 29 year old with only 2 years before UFA, much less throw in a pair of 2nds and a wild card prospect. One of the easiest "No"s I've seen on this site.
You can't dump Wheeler like that - regardless of any NMC or M-NTC he currently has, you also have to account for his $8.25M AAV with 2 more years. Chicago is going to ask for something to sweeten that deal. I also think there's something intangible to think about in the locker room when a guy who's the Captain is basically just shipped out for a bag of pucks - the guys (and potential UFAs) in the room are going to see that and keep that in mind when they start thinking about giving hometown discounts or sticking around after the go UFA.
You probably get two 2nds out of Dillon from another team, but Toronto is almost absolutely not that team. They're pretty solid at LD and don't really need a $3.9M LD3. Other teams would be interested at a similar price to what you paid last summer, though (if you really want Bode Wilde and one of the Isles' 2nds, you can have them for Dillon if you really want.)
Schmidt for a 3rd seems very amenable to Detroit fans so I'll leave it as is.
Stanley needs a change of scenery, and maybe LA does it for a guy like Jaret Anderson-Dolan (or MAAAAAYBE Gabe Vilardi, depending if they've given up on him) but they're not doing it for their 2nd round pick from last year that's one of the top 5 prospects in arguable the league's deepest pipeline.
The Carolina trade doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Necas & Bear are both established NHL talents, Lucius is a few years away from even getting out of college. I can't see a team that's currently a strong Cup contender like the Canes moving two young assets like that for futures like this. You might be able to get a deal for Bear (I'll defer to any Canes fans here) but I get the feeling that Necas is a building block for that team.
This might be okay for JDB? I don't know if Boston is going to prioritize futures or current roster players if they move DeBrusk, but that's probably a decent package that doesn't completely sell the farm for Winnipeg while giving Boston a few solid prospects to build up.
