Is this enough for Chychrun

Created by: rednwhite
Team: 2021-22 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 21, 2022

Description
Is this enough for Chychrun? If not what else would it take to get it done outside of moving Seider, Raymond or Edvinsson.

*It still bothers me the Wings could have taken him in 2016 but swapped picks with Arizona to dump Datsyuks contract and took Cholowski 4 picks later whos been an absolute bust. Thank God Ken Holland is gone.

That won't land Chychrun and I don't like the idea of trading away 1st round picks at this stage of the rebuild anyways.

Moving a 9-11 OV for a #1 24 year old, low cap LD seems like a no brainer IMO. The guy they get at that pick may not see the NHL for 3-4 years and who knows if they even turn out to be a solid NHLer.

Re-read my statement, I didn't say it wasn't worth it, just that I didn't like it. Chychrun will be in for a big contract at a less than stellar time in comparison to others and would also put us in a tough spot salary cap wise (Larkin, Bertuzzi, Raymond and Seider) will all have new contacts when it would come time to extend Chychrun as well. Just long term thinking is all...

Not even close to enough.

Think Zadina, Edvinsson, Vrana, Wallinder, Raymond - players like that.

(please note: This isn't meant to come off like a wanker...sometimes it's hard to tell on here tears of joy)

I like long term thinking, but I don't like the idea of saying "Naw, I don't want to improve the team because we *may* end up with issues in 2025/26.

I can see it if you're thinking "We're still a year or two away from the step forward where it'll make sense to go hunting for a contract/player like that", or something along those lines, but if you've got eyes on the playoffs, I'd absolutely pull the trigger, and say "thanks for not demanding Edvinsson!". All that being said, I think you guys are going to take another step forward next year, but that division is still super top heavy which is going to make sneaking in extremely difficult.

I understand what you said, it just seems like a no brainer to add a guy who will be able to help the team for the next 10 years (assuming he resigns). Even if we extend those guys it may cost around 45 million at the most. That leaves another 45 for the rest of the group assuming the cap continues to climb.

Right, but that package wouldn't get him and I'm not willing to give up the pieces it would (think Edvinsson and 2 1st round picks). The point about not wanting to give up 1st round picks, was more about the long term strategy.

Edvinsson plus two top 10 firsts seems like a massive overpayment. I can't see any team giving up that type of package to be honest. I don't think many teams would trade a prospect like Edvinsson for him straight up. I absolutely get not wanting to trade 1sts while in a rebuild, especially with Yzermans ability to identity prospects but moving a 10th OV in a weaker draft to help establish our left side for the future seemed like a reasonable idea. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I'm not saying it's a fair ask, I'm just telling you what a team is probably going to have to pay to get him. According to Jeff Marek, Arizona's asking price is "enormous". You're looking at a minimum of 2 A+ assets and an A level asset, or Arizona probably doesn't move him.

I would not move your 2022 1st for him straight up tbh. Build through the draft. better off drafting an impact player in a few years than Chychrun being 30 when you are truly contending

I would be OK with it. The hope is that any pick in that range lands a guy that develops into a player like Chychrun. The process is just sped up a bit. With that written I don't think that this offer lands him.

I think it was 3 1st rd picks or equivalent. Now outside Detroit Zadina is probable worth a 3rd or a prospect in a similar situation. I honestly think Wallinder has a good chance at being as good or better but he was a 2nd rd pick. So this is a 1st, 2 2nd rd picks and a 3rd. Plus the Wings are in no position to give up that much for 1 player. Ask yourself does adding Chychrun make Detroit a lock for the playoffs in 2022-23?

Detroit will not be a lock for the playoffs until some of the others in their division regress but they absolutely have a shot at a wild card next year by adding Chychrun.

Incorrect. One player does not make this team a playoff contender, in any way.

Disagree completely. Having a top LD to play in the top 4 to go along with Seider, Hronek and Edvinsson will make a massive difference. Assuming the young guys continue to progress and the team is healthy (they missed Vrana for most the season) they have a real shot at being in the wild card race. I don't think they make the playoffs but should be a 80-90 point team next year. They were in a playoff spot until December when they started struggling.

Dude, what? Who cares where they were in December? The season is 82 games for a reason. This team is still closer to the bottom of the league than the top. Health will help a bit but they have no C depth, a very weak D core and a mediocre coach.

One player does not make this team a playoff team.

Also, Edvinsson is not NHL ready lol.

Once again, I never said they would make the playoffs but they will contend for a spot with Chychrun.

Also how is Edvinsson not NHL ready? He had a spectacular season in the SHL (like Seider last year) and is 6'4, 200lbs. He is the definition of NHL ready. He is far better then any other LD in Detroit's system. Craig Button had him ranked 3rd on his list of top NHL Affiliated prospect. Your delusional if you think he won't be ready to play in the NHL next year.

Your height and weight don't make you NHL ready lol. Seider is the exception, not the rule. If you think Edvinsson is going to walk into the NHL next year and look ready you are quite delusional.

No way Arizona accepts that, they will get a far better offer elsewhere than what we can give them. With Edvinsson/Johansson/Wallinder we don't need Chychrun.

Clearly not just his height and weight that makes him NHL ready. He is dominating the SHL and has had one of the best U20 seasons for a defenceman in he SHL. He will likely not step in and play 25 minutes a night like Seider but he can definitely contribute and play 20 a night.
