Honestly I wouldn't care IF they where 1-2 year deals.

Gudbranson is a league min player though, one ok season in the perfect scenario for him doesnt change his entire career

Take it from a Flames fan here, he is only getting 2M because he is taking 1 year deals and was drafted 3rd OA 12 years ago. He is a good 3rd pair guy, that can PK, that's it.

He probably re-ups with Calgary on a multi year team friendly deal as the Flames have no other immediately RD in the pipeline to replace him and he is having a career year there. Plus he has a young family so he likely just wants to settle down somewhere for a while

I want Tanev soooo bad, 6'5"...amazing at defense, good contract. Veteran, Playoff experience. Perfect partner for Power... Probably cost Peterka or something to get Calgary to move him though correct? @Alfie11 can comment as well.

Calgary is never trading him, not even if you offered Tage+. As I said they don't even have any RD to replace Gudbranson any time soon so how the hell would they replace Tanev

Yeah it just doesn’t make sense for Calgary to move him, we’re not rebuilding. We’re a contender and he’s a major, cost-controlled part of our top 4 and PK. There’s also no replacement for him in the system on the right side (Gudbranson is not a top 4 D, and we don’t have the cap room to be a major buyer in free agency, not that Josh Manson is that appealing, but he’s probably the best defensive 2RD replacement, and I predict he’ll get similar or more than Tanev despite being significantly less effective). Add the fact that Tanev is superb at helping younger partners (helped Hanifin leap to being a legit top pair D, turned Kylington from an AHLer into a good top 4 guy), he’s too valuable to let go. Like, worst case scenario is he regresses in like a year or two and we play him with like, Mackey or Valimaki to help bring them along. There’s just no reason for Calgary to move him, and this isn’t even pushing for an overpay, because future assets aren’t as appealing as the chance to win a cup right now, which Tanev provides.

No interest in Gudbranson who has had one good year in his career of below average seasons.

Why are we trading for UFA rights, it’s a waste of picks.

Almost as funny as the Leafs game tonight
Looks like another 1st round exit for you guys

U think ppl will get fired?
Or they’ll shake the team up with a big trade or 2?
