He’s 31 when he’s signing this contract, expires at 36. Underlying numbers are still nowhere near pre-injury levels and brutal defensively. Not a guy who’s gonna age well.

Ehh, that’s reasonable but I still think he might get traded. I think his impact to this team is probably a bit overrated considering he leads the team in scoring. I’d take at least 4 forwards on this team over him rn.

I'd do whatever it takes to keep the Buchy/Thomas/Tarasenko line together. They are doing things this team hasn't seen in 30+ years.

The biggest problem will be the 2023 off season where we will have to let someone of
O’Reilly
Thomas
Kyrou
Tarasenko
Walk/trade. I think out of all of them tarasenko is the one to go but Oreilly is fine too, I just think that we will have to trade him/Senko and not let them walk

1- Heh. And how are his "overlying" numbers? tears of joy Analytics and situational stats are fun, but they still are not as important as actual counting stats. And people always ignore the most pertinent ones anyway (such as Vova being top 10 in the league in rush chances or him leading the team in PP assists).

2- People LOVE to say this all the time, but does no one really notice all the huge ass-busting defensive plays he makes? Again, don't put analytics over what happens on the ice. Analytics don't take into account the amount of goals a player stops from happening, which seems like a pretty important thing. Besides, Tarasenko is not the one on that line who still offers up crazy zone turnover gifts too frequently - but it does affect his analytic on-ice numbers.

3- Maybe, maybe not, but I'm not sure I'd bet against him staying productive for 3-4 more years. Those eastern European tank forwards tend to have a decent ratio of guys who stay damn good a long time (Ovechkin, Malkin, Jagr, Lang, Kovalev, etc.).

I refuse to get into an analytics argument, but Tarasenko’s “career year” is extremely driven by him playing with by far the best linemates he’s ever had. Sure he works hard, but there’s a lot more than effort that goes into playing defense. Struggles immensely making positive plays on his backhand, slow decision making moving the puck on the half-wall, and prone to some turnovers. When defenseman step up, he folds. Not overly detrimental without the puck, but still bleeds chances against. Yes, he’s still and excellent offensive player, no arguing that.

1- Gosh, you could say that about Buch and Thomas as well, huh? cool You kinda act like he's a passenger, which is ludicrous.

2- Like making defensive plays that save goals on the regular? You're kinda picking out one phrase to zero in on and ignoring the rest of the points.

3- All of this is either overwrought or I downright disagree with it. Tarasenko folds from physical play? Eh?

4- Oi vey. No one player "leaks chances" as you say. There's five skaters on the ice, man. Either way, the guy is up 10 for on-ice goals for-against against some of the toughest competition.

Now I'm not saying I'd choose to sign him to a 5x7, but I's also not get too down about it if they actually did.

Flyers decline. Provorov is worth significantly more than Barbashev, despite his career year

Didn’t say he’s a passenger, but I think Buch and Thomas are more important to the success of that line. He doesn’t struggle physically, but really really struggles when he has to turn his back or take it on the backhand to receive passes coming out of the zone. If he gets time and space taken away, the puck won’t go forward. That’s his biggest issue and leads to a lot more zone time against. I think watching Perron vs Tarasenko is a good example of what 91 is bad at. I do think if he played LW his numbers would be better because he’d take all his passes on the forehand.
