Larsson for Hall

Created by: clark
Team: 2016-17 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 27, 2017
Published: Apr. 27, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know it's not the same in trading value but Larsson with his two goals in the third period last night, scored two more playoff goals than Taylor Hall did in his entire Oiler career. Trade doesn't look so one sided as many had suggested.

You're judging a trade based on a single period of hockey! They're in the playoffs because McDavid is a savage, not because of Larsson!

LoveMyPens, I did write this , tongue in cheek. But I always liked the trade. Larsson had the potential being a good Dman which he couldn't always show in New Jersey. I'm as surprised as anyone when last night he looked (well had the same results) as Paul Coffey, at least for two shifts.

That's like saying that if Edmonton had traded Hall for Brian Boyle they'd have won the trade because Boyle has more points in the playoffs this year than Hall in his career.

So I guess you guys in Edm are done bitchin about the trade and how bad the return for Hall was?
Im still happy we have Hall, but you would have thought we gave you Eric Gelinas!

Pretty sure he isn't basing the entire trade off one period. Larsson's entire body of work this year has been everything the Oilers have been missing.

And clearly you don't watch much Oilers hockey because they wouldn't be in the playoffs without Talbot and Draisaitl too.

Being carried around by Klefbom? Larsson has looked decent bc Klefbom is just a beast. I like Larsson but he will never justify being traded for Hall, he just will never be that good. He compliments your true number 1 in Klef so it works out in the end

I completely agree with you coga, klefbom is clearly the better defenceman. I don't know how people can justify hall for larsson, who some people call a number 1 D, yet he's 4th on the oilers on time on ice among defencemen

To say that Larsson is a good player and is giving the Oilers something they sorely lacked for a long time is one thing but saying "oh he has more playoff goals than Taylor Hall" doesn't give enough credit to Hallsy as a player, that led the Oilers in points for basically his whole career while the Oilers were a full dumpster fire. McDavid is the reason the Oilers are where they are, not Adam Larsson

Still happy about that trade though

Defensively, Larsson carried Klefbom this season, not the other way around. His defensive acumen allowed Klefbom to freewheel more than most coaches would like, which helped him develop his offensive game.

Larsson has been a rock all year.

yeah thats not true. all indications is the opposite, that Larssons wowys jumped when Paired with Klef, and when away from him, were noticably lower. You might not be a fan of advanced stats, but evrything points to Klefbom is the man that props up his D partners.

Larsson is still a very steady and reliable Dman, but Hes not a number 1 Stud bc he had a breakout period for the Oilers last night. Hes good but hes a Number 2-3 type of guy

Larsson is a stud shutdown defenseman. 1RD for sure.
