Given what PHI paid to get Ellis, the optics are too bad for PHI to move Ellis this quick for that package (he will be healthy to play next season)

Getting another LW doesn't make much sense to me, in a couple of years we are gonna have an overload at that position

Tkachuk
Formenton

Brown and Joseph play both sides and one might have to, depending if they acquire a Top-6 RW or not.

I think also AT THE VERY LEAST, 1 one of these guys make the team full time :

Ridly Greig
Angus Crookshank
Parker Kelly
Roby Jarventie
Egor Sokolov
Viktor Lodin

And the 5 other guys will push hard for it. Greig I think will simply be too hard to keep off the team.

Crookshank and Kelly are 100% ready but more for the 4th line. There might be a 1 year opening for the remaining Top-9 LW spot but not worth acquiring JDB

We already have JBD too so to avoid confusion, let's not do that!

If the GOAL here is to get rid of Colin White's AAV, just buy him out.

Dunno what Copium Flyers fans are huffing, but I take Z's contract over Ellis every day of the week. That contract is a disaster.

Decent player (a tad overpaid) who would be happy to play in Boston (unlike DeBrusk) and some picks. Pretty straight forward.

I guess that makes it a tough spot to be in...

But its actually not lol

Production over the last 3 seasons:

DeBrusk - 178gp / 87pts / 0.49pgp
White - 130gp / 51pts / 0.39pgp

DeBrusk has been the better producer over the last 3 years so Boston would be downgrading. Now factor in that White's cap hit is about $750k more....so the Bruins are going to spend more cap space to make the team worse? Where is White going to play? He's not displacing any center currently in Boston and if Boston moves DeBrusk they'll need to replace him at 1RW. Zero chance White is going to be that guy, so where does he fit?

Also just because DeBrusk requested a trade doesn't mean he's not happy. His request came early in the year when he was playing a bottom 6 role. He's now playing on the top line with Bergeron and Marchand. His teammates love him, he's smiling and having fun playing, which is pretty evident watching games. If he was so unhappy he wouldn't have signed a 2yr extension with Boston.

So again, its actually not straight forward.

It’s straightforward….but its really bad.

White is on a horrible contract. I think a buyout is likely. Severe, and i mean severe negative value there. I think the 2nd and 3rd is kind of what it would cost to ditch the contract.

Then on the other hand there’s debrusk, who has been lights out for boston for the last 40 or so games. He’s been promoted to the top line and is playing great, and scoring. “Ohhh but he wants to be traded!” I know. I don’t care. You know who else knows, and doesn’t care? Don Sweeney.

The bottom line is that if the bruins were willing to trade debrusk for a downgrade and picks, Debrusk wouldn’t be on the bruins anymore. They’re clearly not willing to do that, and this proposal is significantly worse than that.

To answer the question from the title: far enough that there’s no fixing it.
