No chance the Jets or anyone gives up a 2nd to get stuck with Toews full cap hit.

Is that not selling low on someone who has been there for so long and has meant so much to the organization?
being traded for a 2nd would be a slap across the face

We are absolutely not trading a second for Toews, $10.5M middle 6 center at this point in his career

There'd need to be a lot retention on Toews for anyone to be ininterested.

I've probably asked this before but can another team be used to retain a portion of a players cap hit? For example I know that the most the Hawks could retain on Toews is 50% but could another team like Arizona be involved and retain 50% on the remaining and bring Toews cap hit down to $2.625M??
*Obviously Arizona would need to be compensated with a 3rd round pick or something.

I think it's more that he thinks Toews will want to go home vs the rebuilding Hawks asking him to leave. At least it seems like that from Toews' comments recently. Just like the Hawks honored their word with MAF, they'll do whatever Toews wants to do. Not just because they honor the word, but also because they have to. I hope he stays.

Yes. That could 100% happen. Domi went from CBJ with CBJ eating 50%, to the Panthers where they ate another 50%, and he plays for CAR with a cap hit of $1.325M

Cool, thanks.. 👍

In a scenario like that I could see the Jets having some interest in Toews if they could make some other moves to send some cap out depending on acquisition cost obviously.

This happens. The only thing is that it increases the value that has to be moved around for Toews. A team's unlikely to give up a 2nd for Toews and also a 3rd to another team to take the $2.6M. In fact, a 3rd might not be enough of a return for eating $2.5M of space. So I think it's more likely that if he decides he wants to get moved, there will be multiple pieces going back and forth. Toews and a 3rd for two (middling) prospects and a 2nd, or some such thing.
