I doubt Montreal moves Barron. The deal is not bad value just RD is one of our biggest weaknesses, so moving a potential top 4 prospect makes no sense.

Well this would give MTL a 1-2 punch at center that would make them a much better team and I also think the value is fair. Let’s go with the odds and say MTL doesn’t pick first at the draft this year, they can then go and draft Nemec or Jiricek to replace Barron as a future top 4 RHD. There would have to be a stipulation that Miller signs an extension in Montreal though or the whole point is mute anyway.

If the trade is after the draft and we already drafted 3rd and took Nemec or Jiricek, maybe I would do that. However why wouldn't we just keep the assets and sign Kadri? Kadri grew up a Habs fan and would be a good 2C fill in until we can draft another top 6C.

Because I’d rather a 29 year old Miller than a 32 year old Kadri. Plus if Kadri goes to market this offseason he’s going to be looking for the contract of his career. In conclusion I’m not saying the Habs should make a move like this, it really depends on what direction Hugo decides to take next season.

3 years difference in age is not that significant IMO and Miller will also be looking for a similar dollar amount on a long term contract (my guess is both are looking for between 6.5-8 Mil). The difference between the 2 is one costs 4 good assets and a contract, where the other costs just a contract. For me I take the guy who just costs a contract and keep the 4 assets.

Fair enough point, but still have to convince Kadri to come to MTL over every other suitor. And IMO in a league where the average player’s prime is what? 5 years? 3 years in age is a huge difference.

I don't think the Canucks are impressed with the picks or Dvorak. Montreal shouldn't be giving up futures for one year of Miller. Please let's not have any "extension" talk.

I would argue that prime years are 25-30 and by the time next season starts that Miller would only have one more "prime" year left anyway.

As for convincing Kadri, since the contracts will be similar all you have to do is offer him fair value and I think he jumps at the chance to play for his favorite boyhood team. The issue would be IF someone overpays for him, if that is the case though then we just keep moving forward.
