Bordeleau Looking Good

Created by: Waffelz
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2022
Published: Apr. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Notes:
1. Reimer/Kahkonen 1A/1B.
2. Potential Vlasic buyout/Labanc trade (at a loss, possibly) in 2023 offseason to resign Timo Meier.
3. Might also need to let Balcers walk if he wants to get more than 1.5-2m as a FA.
4. No room for free agents because the Sharks have no tradeable major assets to clear cap.
5. If they can stay mostly injury free, probably a fringe playoff team.

Trades
1.
SJS
  1. 2024 4th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Hill offsets some of the negative value Simek carries, and we don't need 3 goaltenders anyway.
2.
SJS
  1. 2022 4th round pick (BUF)
BUF
  1. Bonino, Nick
Additional Details:
No space for Bonino with Bordeleau & Reedy, might as well try and get a pick for him. Not sure who wants a defense focused 3C, but someone will want him.

Fair enough, I just picked a team that I knew had cap space. Figured you had plenty of young guys who could use a stable mentor.

Probably would say yes last year, if the Sabres add both Quinn and Peterka to the lineup there might only be 1 forward spot open next year. Hope they would go top 6 instead.

Do you expect this team to make the playoffs? There really is no difference between 21/22 to your 22/23 team except for one more year of experience. I dought the Coyote's take Hill back and Simek an any deal.

The way I laid it out, I left enough cap space so the Sharks can hold onto Simek if they can't find a taker. Maybe he will look more appealing when he only has 1 year left on his deal, or maybe he will improve. If they stay healthy and the younger guys (Bordeleau, Eklund, Reedy, Merkley) continue to develop I could see them sneaking into a wild card spot.

I tend to think that if Joe Will or the next GM add a good draft pick they can get Simek moved. Overall I tend to agree with you that bringing up the young kids and letting them develop is the
best thing to do for the Sharks. I'm just so used to looking at these fantasy GM pages and just laughing at most of them. Yours surprised me because there weren't a lot of crazy moves.
