If we get wright we could compete soon

Created by: HabsLoveZuki

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 25, 2022
Published: Apr. 25, 2022

Description
If we draft Shane Wright this year, we will hope that he spends a season with Laval. If he does he will be a rookie in 2 years, and this will also mean we have another rebuild season in 2022-23. He then draft top 10. In this case, we will be able to be competitive.

GMs will see what Gallagher brings and he will be traded for something decent. I will trade him to LA for now because this is where he is the most linked to. Traded in the 2022 offseason

If you get Wright, also if you get Letang and Huberdeau. It’s going to take Wright a handful of years to get to the level that those others bring.

The center depth isn't great so he would make the team soon

      Sabres 100% pass
      ZERO interest in Petry

      Habs fans:
Stop trying to dump him on us

      Also….
      No interest in Hoffman
And Armia isn’t enough of an upgrade for us to be interested either
      We’re all set at forward

Jonathan Huberdeau isn't leaving Florida for the likes of Montreal, He'll be resigned this summer. Letang i can see happening. Huberdeau is a major pipedream.

Wright is playing in the OHL so he isn’t eligible for laval.

Huberdeau would be a nice score, but is signing a 30 year old winger for 7 years (habs couldn’t offer 8) at 13 million a good idea? Especially when he’s really only been this high-end elite point producer for two of his 10 seasons.

But even with all that, is that team ready to compete? Carey Price basically has put together two good months in the past five years, and with his injury concerns, is he even playing? If he is, is that even a good thing? What’s Kris Letang looking like at 37. Just based on the historical of NHL d man prospects over the past couple decades, its kind of unlikely that either Guhle or Barron are legit top four guys (though I’m certainly not saying that either of them won’t be, just that most guys don’t pan out). It’s crazy unlikely that one of them is a top four option for the 23-24 season, and practically impossible that both are.

This kinda looks like a team that gives out some big contracts to try to be a playoff bubble team, and really regrets it in a couple years when the guys they signed are aging, and its time to give the kids the big contract.

Retain 50% on Gallagher and drop Lemieux from the trade and LA might be interested.

100% he makes the team. But he isn’t going to be dominant for a number of years.

Do you know him? Have a crystal ball? This deal makes him the highest paid player in the league, i don’t think its impossible.

In fairness, the cap will likely be up two years from now.

The reality of understanding Gallagher's value is if he were a free agent, what do you think the Habs would pay for him for 5 years? If that value is not near $6.5M, then how can you justify another team paying players, picks, and prospects at a value you don't believe he would be worth.

Be realistic, Why would he leave a win now mode Florida for the likes of Montreal? Perhaps if Florida wins the cup this year he might chase more money. Taxes are high in Canada and here in Florida with no State income tax. Sorry but i don't see it happening.

Considering Huberdeau himself said that he would love to play for the Habs one day but right now he is focused on this cup run. I think there is a real possibility that he comes to Montreal if the Cats win the cup this year. It may not even more than 7-8 mil to convince him.

Before you ask for proof see the link below.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/Habs/comments/mu0juv/jonathan_huberdeau_se_voit_avec_le_ch_tva_sports/

See the translation of his comments in the thread (posted below for convenience)

Translation of the interesting part for our anglo friends:

Asked if he ever wanted to play in a big hockey market, the 27-year-old allowed himself - for a few seconds - to imagine himself in the blue, white and red jersey.

“Surely you sometimes wonder if you’re going to be able to play for Montréal. It's a beautiful city and that's where I come from. It's always been a dream to play for Montréal,” said the Saint-Jérôme native.

Huberdeau quickly returned to reality, however.

"But for now, I'm trying not to think about it. I'm in Florida and having fun there. I would really like to compete in a championship in Florida before I maybe go to Montréal."

Sounds to me like he would consider signing in Montreal as a FA.

Maybe Gallagher has had one bad year, but he has five bad years of one of the worst contracts in hockey. Montreal will have trouble getting rid of him without retaining at least 40% on his contract. As my friend @tryger so accurately says, What do you think a team would sign him for if he were an unrestricted free agent this summer?
