i would have no problem with that, can make it Edmonton's 2nd if you want but hoffman has to go hes just taking up minutes at this point and we are going to need to shed cap.

    No thats is aggressively stupid.

The habs once petry is gone will have 15 million in space with 17 players signed and no rfa that will command big dollars it is not remotely necessary

I made a mistake, that was to be MTL 3rd from this year.
    Let me correct that.
I cannot correct it. I will add another trade.

Why would habs only get future consideration for Hoffman?

The Carolina 3rd they may consider it but even the habs 3rd is in the 60s there are still really good players there.

The habs dont need to dump cap Hughes already said they expected a relatively quiet offseason. Its nuch more likely the dangle webers contract to arizona and use it to move hoffman or armia with the weber contract for cheap.

Drouin comes off LTIR, and petry gone habs have 7-8 mil which is gone when they resign their current RFAs. Hughes hasnt said it will be a quiet offseason so not sure where you are pulling that out of, He said its not going to be a fire sale and also been multiple reports that the habs will be looking to be a major player in free agency. So yes they are going to look to move cap out, Hoffman has been garbage, hes a pp specialist who rarely performs on the powerplay and at times causes more chances against than he creates with the man advantage. His contract isnt bad if hes scoring 20+ but right now he isnt that player so moving a 2nd or 3rd pick to get back that cap hit is fine. if we cant manage to add enough talent with 4 first in the next two season and ton of other picks then moving a 3rd is irrelevant either way.

If Hoffman can't be moved for free or with a little retention, a buyout makes more sense. We can dangle him at $3M.
Drouin and Byron are in their final years and more likely to be cap casualties. Retention, buyout, or pay-to-move will be much easier and cheaper than Hoffman or Armia.

Mike Hoffman's buyout is super cheap. No way they move a top 35 pick to dump him.

Edit: Just saw your edit. I think this is much more possible.

The habs projected cap hit next year right now is 81.5 million.

Subtract weber and petry and you are at 67,431,666 which is 15,068,334 in space. You could have literally taken 30 seconds to create a AGM and found this out

Hughes said in a interview after the article came out that wrongly claimed they were going after a big fish that he did not forsee signing any major ufas this offseason.

Your ideas are very clearly misinformed

I stand corrected on the cap fair. But romanov going to be probably around 3 mil if they bridge him, and probably another 5 mil spread over the pitlicks, pezetta and if we resign one of the bottom defenseman. So best case we are able to move petry (somehow with no cap coming back) and we have 7ish mil. More likely we take some cap with a short term on it.

If they want to be in full tanking mode next year then ya that would be fine but i dont think thats the case. There is the potential that several solid players hit free agency this year with some teams needing to make tough decisions on who to keep. Habs currently have two forwards who are actually playing like top 6 forwards so i have a hard time feeling that hughes has no interest in the crop of forwards that should hit free agency this offseason.

And aside from all that i would pay to not see hoffman in a habs jersey again and in no way think a 3rd is some crazy price to pay if thats what it took.

The Pens arent going to pay to move Zucker. He is one of the only actual leaders on the team and the coaching staff "loves him". Yes, actual quote.
