Just what a rebuilding does, trade picks away. Hard pass.

Trade doesn't have to be with Chicago, although I would be interested in giving Samsonov a look. We don't have any goalies signed for next year after Soderblom, who isn't ready to start and ample cap space. Buying low on his potential could be a good play for a number of young, noncontending teams.

Wild need to shed cap, not add. Trading Kulikov for Eller makes no sense for that reason.

Isles get the more expensive player plus give a pick? Hagelin has negative value. A 6th should cover paniks 250k dead cap if hes buried. That leaves hagelin going to the isles for... nothing? Isles decline.

Hagelin hasn’t scored much this year but he’s proven to be a solid defender and is a straight line player. I think he’d be a solid addition to the third line and — like you said — Isles would be getting him for nothing. They don’t have a cap issue this year

My bigger issue is that I don't see where he would fit on next year's team without someone else moving out.

Right now the lines for opening night would be something like(maybe not exactly these combos but it'd be these 12 dudes):

Lee - Barzal - Wahlstrom
Beauvillier - Nelson - Bailey
Parise - JGP - Palmieri
Martin - Cizikas - Clutterbuck

Johnston/14th F/7th D

Adding Hagelin means that you probably bump Martin down to a healthy scratch(fine) but basically guarantees that you move on from Kieffer Bellows - he's an RFA this summer but I could see him re-signing cheap (much cheaper than Hagelin), but if you do that you're subjecting one of him, Martin, and Johnston to waivers in October. I don't think Lou would put Matt through that, and I think the fact that he re-signed Ross to 4x$1.1M shows you that he doesn't want to lose him either, so Bellows turns into the odd man out (if he's even re-signed).

tl;dr: i don't think Hagelin improves the bottom 6 enough to make a move for him.

Yeah I don't think the Isles accept that trade - Hags adds little to nothing honestly (coming from a Caps fan who watches every game). He is solid on the defensive end, but adds no offense, is losing speed, and has taken an extremely high amount of penalties this year. Plus coming off a serious injury, I think he retires or bought out.

Husso is a good add and hopefully goes for that price.

For me, Jarnkrok is overpaid here for a 30 point guy. Would rather spend money on a more effective goal scorer or save the money and give the younger guys some playing time (Protas, Leason, AJF, etc).

Final thought: this is a small detail - I think VV gets around $2.5mil rather than $3.33mil
