You have to pay more than that because Buffalo probably has zero interest in jvr

If they are still a rebuilding team they may do what Arizona is doing which is taking contracts for picks and players. They don't have interest in the player/contract itself just the additions that come with the contract. 7 mil for only one season doesn't need a high end prospect and a 3rd.
maybe a 2nd and a 3rd but not a bigger prospect like frost

Ummmmm Philly declines because this trade is absolutely hilariously bad

JVR still has value, but just needs some of that salary retained. Heck. JVR at 4.5 is worth a mid-late 2nd.

We could work a multi team deal out and have 2 teams retain on him for late picks and get a nice return. There are rumours MTL wanted to take the full hit and retain half on Petry for JVR and a prospect…

It’s honestly hilarious how some people treat JVR so bad because of his cap hit

You can keep the third round pick and buffalo can kick you a higher pick than a seventh rounder if Frost were the return. Maybe a 4th. Not sure Buffalo really has a spot on the roster for JVR, but if this trade were on the table Adams would have to take it. Unless he has a better idea.

Sabres don't need offensive players taking roster spots from the young players. They also don't need left D even if it is a "high end prospect" like you say. There's essentially no value in this for the sabres.

Ummmmm Philly declines because this trade is absolutely hilariously bad... I completely agree, but what is the value of taking on $3,500,000 of dead cap?

Frost is a C.....Yes he is.
There are many playoff teams who would love to have JVR's 23 goals, unfortunately none of them have the cap space to absorb $7,000,000.
Checking CF the Flyers have $76,143,107 committed to 10 forwards, 6 defensemen, 1 GK and 2 LTIR presuming they will not be competing, they could sign 5 UFA @ $750,000 and still be below the cap limit.
Why would the Flyers not hold him until the 2023 TDL, retain 50% and trade him to a contender for a decent return, IMO at least a 2nd if not more?

Let me add, getting Gaudreau will not make the Flyers a playoff team.
At this time they are further away from the playoffs than the Sabres.
