If i ran Arizona

Description
Im looking for high cap hit but low actual dollar deals to get me to the floor, while acquiring more assets. Arizona should avoid Matt Murray or Dadanov, etc who have big actual dollar deals.

1: Lucic. After his signing bonus is paid, his salary is 1 mil. Calgary pays the signing bonus and moves him to Arizona. Arizona eats 500k for a 2.6125 mil of cap to send him to a place he would want to go. Ill put Carolina but could be any team. If Monahan is on LTIR, calgary is set up to run it back in 22-23. Calgary gives up a lower end prospect. The gaining team gives up a 3rd rounder or prospect.

2. Weber. Zona gets him for future considerations. Montreal doesnt pay anything to move him because the 6 million over 4 years he is paid isnt anything to them. Also, him being on LTIR doesnt hurt them either. 3 million isnt ideal for next season but the 1 million over the next 3 years are.

3. Keith: Keith was okay in Edmonton but isnt worth the cap hit. Much like Lucic, he has a 1.5 million real dollar hit for next season. Arizona flips him with 50% retention. 750k for a 2.769 mil cap hit. Ill use Carolina again but it doesn't matter who he goes to. Edmonton gives up a lower prospect or a 2024 3rd. Receiving teams gives up similar.

4. Holl is a decent target for Toronto to shed some cap space and save about a 1-1.25 million in cap if they want to re-sign Gio while getting a depth 3RD. Its only an idea so, i didnt add him to the trades.

Zona would have one more retain to maximize the return on a 50% retained Ghost, Ladd or Richie at the deadline (if any have stellar seasons. Being the 3rd wheel in a deal of retaining to get something is possible too. I try to use some of the lower picks / younger low end prospects to get guys from other teams that are getting older and arent going to crack their rosters but could ours. I am a Carolina fan so a guy like Bokk, Sellgren, etc. See what you can develop in camp and possibly build their value up to flip for something better, later.

I would like to offer sheet either Hague or Kakko but the 2023 draft is too deep to give up a 2nd rounder that is likely a 33-35 pick. I would consider it if a team were to trade me a 2023 2nd rounder for a 22 second rounder on draft day to move up to get a guy.

Where the guys are on the roster isnt too important, its a mess anyway you put it. Im picking Wright if we have 1, Slav if 2, and Cooley if 3.

So are the Canes just your placeholder team, because there is no way they want anything to do with Lucic or Keith.

Arizona should save their retainments. Doing this would leave them with no one else to retain... they probably get a decent return for ghost, definitely better than someone like Lucic

You don't appreciate Lucic's and Keith's highly restrictive M NTC...thought I agree with your theory on getting low cost players.

I agree. Arizona doesnt have to do both of those deals. With the floor likely being 60.9- 61 million next year, they could make the Alberta teams go against each other and see who pays the most to save cap. They would have 2 retains left. If Toronto doesnt want much for Holl, to save cap, then they will make the floor no problem

Arizona gotta pay like a 3rd for Weber. Habs have no reason to trade Weber and his contract situation makes it so teams get a 7million cap hit player for 3 years but only have to pay 6 million total

I don’t see anyone paying Weber. No one is going to pay to eat 6 million
