Mixing Things Up Next Year

Created by: Earthball
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 29, 2022
Published: Apr. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Forwards:
* Thinking that Zucker will be healthy.
* Letting Malkin walk in favor of signing Letang and having some money to make the team different I think is the way to go. I am hoping they both are willing to take less to stay together and make changes but I doubt it. Could try and move Zucker&Carter if Maklin's number is reasonable.
* Signing Trocheck helps the center position 2nd line.
* Signing Marchment adds secondary offense and size (6.04/209). If Florida wins the cup and he plays any part in it his contact will go the way of Coleman/Goodrow, which would not work.
* One young gun moved up - Puustinen is interesting - but could easily be Poulin, DOC, BigZ, or Hallander.
* Trade for Roy (6.04/205) size and skill.

Defense:
* Trade for Soucy (6.05/211) - I think Dumo could be useful for Seattle as a cup winning veteran and a year left so a trade piece at the deadline.
* POJ - I think he will move past Petterson mid-season on the depth chart if playing, then pair with Marino. This can set up a mid-season trade of Petterson - maybe for a forward if Zucker can't stay healthy again.

Goalies:
* Sign Wedgewood (29yrs old) - seems like everyone wants him at the deadline (NJ/AZ will take him back for the 7th time). This could also be DeSmith returning same idea though.
* Thinking that maybe if Jarry is solid again, one of the young guns can jump in (Lindberg or Blomqvist)
* One of the 7/8th D (Friedman/Ruhweded) would prob get send down (maybe claimed) see who stands out in camp.
* Jarry will need a new contract - so moving Petterson could also help with that next year.

Roy will probably be a higher contract (3yr 2.5M), Kapanen will prob sign a prove it deal, low money (1yr 1M). Savings to Vegas cap could make this possible.

You're at least $1,000,000 under both Rust and Trocheck closer to $1,500,000 under for Trochek. He also has Michigan ties as well and Yzerman would offer him more than that. Same for home town boy Rust.

Perhaps - but Vegas has some cap issues to figure out. I believe they have around 81 million committed for 22-23 with Brossoit as the backup.

Have to sign Roy, Kolesar, Janmark, and/or Hague. Also Riley Smith? Also Nolan Patrick's cap hit will come back if he's not injured.

Obviously they can trade a higher priced guy to make space (Dadonov) which will help.
