Trading back in draft scenarios

Description

Was just curious what The Athletic's "NHL draft pick value chart" said about scenarios moving back in the draft.

On paper, most of these do not seem worth it. But the are interesting to consider. I think the best route is moving back a slot or two and adding a player or 2nd rounder (like Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo scenarios).

If by chance cooley or savoie was still available when pick 5 came up I'd hope Detroit would make that deal.

I’d make that deal right now just knowing the top 5 prospects I’d want. I think there’s a pretty solid top 6 before a drop off.

I'm not opposed to that deal either. I would rather get one elite player over 1 really good and 1 good player personally. We need more elite talent.

Was just about to post something in regards to trading down. I potentially like the idea of trading down with Buffalo for their #16 and #30 and maybe one of their G prospects. But not sure if that's asking for a lot

With the uncertainty in Buffalo's crease, I'd say the goalie prospects are off limits for now unless Adams' socks get blown off. If someone Buffalo really likes is there at 5 though, who knows?

The top 8 of this draft is the only place I would want to be. If the pick is traded, it should be for an established player, and not to move back in the draft.

As Devils fans who do we want to get if we stay at 5 though? If we stay at 5 and he's available I want Slafkovsky. If not him then Nemec. If both of those guys are gone, I'd be ok with trading back.
