Seems like a lot for Detroit to give up for a guy who's older, costs more and has worse production than Hronek. Especially with Minnesota needing to dump salary.

Not a deal I think minny who needs to save a few bucks would make. If they move dumba its probably a young cheap guy and a good pick.

Yzerman tries to strike lightning in a bottle a second time and promotes Ben Simmons just like he did Jon Cooper

They kinda already did that with Blashill. The more I think about it, I think Yzerman is going to go with a more experienced coach that strikes a balance between being hard nosed, but still relatable to his players. I'm really starting to warm up to the idea of Paul Maurice, if he becomes an option.

It doesn't matter that Blashill wasn't an Yzerman hire, it has to do with the message to the players and the make up of the roster. Coming out of the Blashill era, I think they need someone with some cache to come in. It might not be Maurice, but someone like that... Hell, maybe even Claude Julien depending on how he does with team Canada at worlds...

Okay, the Yzerman way of doing things is what's best for the team and bringing in a presence would be good for this group.

Also, Simon didn't even get the Griffin's into the playoffs this season, so, complete apples to oranges with Cooper...

Not really Cooper clearly Had a more talented group of players l(the core of which went on to make 5 Conference Final in 7.years including 3 Cup Finalal appearances amd back to back Cups
Besides that how many times did Detroit have to call guys up because of covid injuries and everything else that left the Griffins really short-handed this year Cooper never had to deal with covid as an AHL coach

Cooper took over after two abysmal seasons back to back at the end of a hard nosed Torts tenure and the failed experiment of Melrose's return, followed by underperforming stints under Tocchet and Boucher and going with experienced, hard nosed guys wasn't getting it done. Also, Cooper had just won the Calder cup with Norfolk. This is a COMPLETE apples to oranges different scenario.

Blashill. wasn't an Yzerman hire

Also, this argument went out the window as soon as Yzerman extended Blashill, so, technically, he was an Yzerman hire

Boucher brought them to the ECF it was Vinny contract and a very rare Yzerman mistake resigning Rollie the Goalie that Was the major issue

Right, brought them there... Didn't get them over the hump...

The entire point here, is that the situation is vastly different and Simon to Cooper is apples to oranges, both in coaching readiness and in the position of the organization.
